Can't get the u-shape piece to fit

On the back of the dc17, I'm suppose to connect the u-shape piece to the hose on one end and the solid piece on the other then lock the screw in the middle.  Well, I called the help line, and they said it shouldn't be that difficult.  My problem is that the u-shape piece will not line up to the opposite end, so I am not able to lock the screw.  Very frustrating.  Can anyone help or has experienced this problem?

I can get everything together, but as I am vacuuming, the gasket falls off. I had it together very tight once, but couldn't move the handle back to vacuum. Now I am back to the begining with the u-shaped piece becoming disconnected from the vacuum.

The U-shaped piece on my Dyson 17 is fine, but the connector piece pops loose when you stand the handle straight up for stoarge.  There is a lever-shaped extension on this piece, but there is no groove or "stop" to prevent the piece from poppoing loose.  There is a small hole, and a groove in the end of this lever that suggests a spring might attach there.  However, there are two springs connected to the base near the wheels, but thses springs only have one hooked end.  They must have broken.  Need some help here.  This looks like a really poor design for a vacuum at this price.

How do I hook up the furniture brush attachment?

I have the same one. I am assuming that you are using the air turbine brush attachment that came with the vacuum. There really isn't anything special to it. You can either stick it on the end of the wand, or remove the wand and insert it directly on the end of the hose. It appears that it is supposed to 'click' into something but that is not the case on the DC17 model. It does click into the hose and/or handle of different models as shown in this video. How do I take the piece off vacuum so it can be used as a handheld

Lift red tab at top of handle then pull the entire handle upwards, this then gives you a solid tube about 80 cm long and a long flexi hose connected to the lower end. If you don't want to use the tube part there is a button at he fexi end that you press in. The different attachments can then be fitted either to the handle / tube or the flexi hose

Dc17 won't turn on

there is a reset button under the cover that houses the on/off switches. remove the handle/wand and look on the back (where the top of the hose sits) for 2 screws (its a torx/star head screw size t10 i believe). remove them and locate 4 small locking tabs that hold the switch cover to the frame of the vacuum. Depress them and pop the cover off (2 towards the top and 2 towards the bottom). Youll see 3 switches (2 square red buttons and one small cylindrical shaped one). Push the small red one (the one to the left if my memory serves me right). you should hear a click. if you do than the switch is reset. if not check all connections to all 3 switches. if you see nothing loose or not connected, you may need a new brushbar motor.

I have a new dc17 not happy with the stair attachment. The connection to the arm does not seem very secure and the power isn't as strong as the unit is. I find your manual of very little help. Please...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. The dusting tools supplied with the cleaner attach either to the end of the wand, for high- and low-reach cleaning, or directly to the hose cuff for tighter spaces. They simply use a friction fitting to attach securely onto the end of the wand, or into the hose cuff, depending on your requirements.

I bought a new plastic end piece for the hose but can't get the old one off the hose to change it???

Soak the end of the hose it very hot water to soften the end of the hose. Then insert a screwdiver inside the plastic end piece and flex the end of the hose inward and pull the old end off. To install the new end, bend the end of the hose into a "kidney bean" shape and push the new end on.

I was removing hair from the rotating brush at the bottom after removing the cover and the end away from the belt slipped out. I have the belt in proper placement but can't seem to fit the entire piece...

Sounds like you are having difficulty stretching the drive belt so that the roller end clip can be slid into place.
The end clips on the roller brush are keyed so they can only go into the retainers one way. Remove the belt and check to see what the orientation of the end pieces should be in order for the brush to seat on the vacuum body and mark an alignment if necessary. Remove the brush, add the belt and replace the brush in the vacuum with the roller retainers in the proper position. You may have to stretch the belt a bit, but it should fit in.

How to reassemble vacuum elbow tube with plastic insert?

If the plastic insert has come off then that is not normal. It should be all one piece to the hose. You might have a hose problem that needs replacing.

Cannot reinstall valve pipe assembly on Dyson dc17 vacuum

Take off the cyclone canister and flip open the filter cover. (The U-shaped tube at the bottom of the vacuum is probably already off-if not, release the lock with a screwdriver and remove it.) Release the vacuum from the upright positon, so that the head is extended. Align the value pipe assembly so that the clear tabs line up while the small extension off the value pipe faces the front of the vacuum (ie, is near the filter area). Now you have to carefully twist the value pipe clockwise while lining us the small extension with the black groove inside the head piece by moving the head back into the upright positon at the same time. Replace the U-shaped tube.

so the red hose isn't connected to a part on the vaccum so like it is connected to the connester but not to an opening just above the beater bar, this is the only idea i can supply you with. good luck, maybe i got lucky and helped you out.
