Rewind or fast forward

My vcr will play and record. It will also rewind and fast forward while playing, but will not fast forward or rewind alone. The tape moves a bit and then the vcr shuts off.

Try cleaning the pinch roller. A cotton bud dipped in methylated spirits should work, you may need several. Play a tape through to clean off the methanol residue. Avoid touching any semionductors !

If this doesn't work, you've just a tired motor.

Though not familiar with this model, VCRs of all sorts have an idler mechanism which drives the supply and takeup spindles. Either the idler is somehow defective and slipping, and, assuming this idler is belt driven, the belt may be slipping just enough to cause a no Rew/FFW condition. If you had access to a test tape jig (a clear dummy tape, which allows a tech to view what is happening in the area normally obscured by the loaded tape), this might give a clue as to what is happening. On alot of machines, a problem with Rew/FFW would also mean a tape takeup problem in standard play, result in tape spilling out inside the machine. Sensors would catch this condition and go into a error mode, as yours is doing. One other thing which might be happening here, is the pinch roller not being disengaged from the capstan in the Rew/FFW modes. I think this is where I'd look first, and you can probably see if such is happening just by pulling the cover off the VCR. The pinch roller is just to the right of the rotating video head. In the play and forward/rev search modes it will press the tape up against the capstan (a rotating shaft). When in Rew/FFW, the pinch roller should be pulled back from the capstan, maybe 1/4 inch or so. Whatever the case, repair will likely take someone tech savvy. Costs might not be economically justified, with the low-cost, disposable rigs sold in the last 10+ years.

I taped a TV show. But I can't fast forward to see the end part that I want to watch. It just advances to the end.

I'm not surprised that it advances on the end. The VCR doesn't know where the end of the taped programme is. You will have to search manually for it. Start at the end of the tape and rewind a few minutes worth of recording then press 'play' and see what you get. If not successful rewind further and try again, etc, etc. Alternatively you could press "play +rewind" which should allow you to watch the record on what is fast (=x2) rewind. It will help you if you know how long the show was and at what point the tape was when recording started.

Bush vcr 925nsil Er01

There is a cam to load the tape, and it sounds like that is shot. Probably easier to buy another VCR at a resale shop. Sorry.

Why does my vcr play, fastforward and rewind for 4 seconds then stops for no reason?

When the mechanism is damaged the VCR will attempt to play and then shut itself down to prevent any further damage. If you remove the top cover and look around inside you will probably find the cause of the failure.

VCR needs to be tipped in order to rewind, play, or fast forward.

Sounds like an idler wheel problem on reel table of vcr. Could be loose or maybe spring is stretched or broken.

I lost the remote control, how can rewind the hsv tape. Thanks.

There should be a rewind button on the front of the main unit (usually indicated by either REW or 2 arrows pointing to the left), this should be next to the fast forward (again indicated by either F-FWD or 2 arrows pointing to the right) as well as PLAY and STOP - for the VCR. The only thing you would need the remote for is to set the clock and/or perform setup for the DVD player as well as timer recording. Try a universal remote which will make fast forward, play, stop, record (to VHS) and rewind easier.

The VCR shuts off after just a few seconds of playing or rewinding or fast forwarding. The tape goes in, and when you push play (or any direction), the unit will try and play it and then it will shut the...

There is a part that is called an idler wheel assembly that is critical for play, rewind, and fast forward, and may have stopped working. The second possibility is that the drive belt that runs the idler assembly has broken or come off.

Problems with recording/rewind/fast forward

You probably have a bad power supply. But as you will learn, repairing any VCR will cost more than buying a new one.

VCR plays for a few seconds and rewinds. Now, the VCR plays tape in fast forward mode

Most everyone I know had problems with the tv/vcr combo including myself. I'll never buy one again. I'm sorry you are having the same problem.
