My modem disconnects when someone walks into the room

My modem is plugged directly into the wall in my living room. Whenever someone enters the room, no matter how quickly, slowly, quietly, loudly, jarringly, or softly, the modem's second light labled atm turns off and the light next to it labeled dsl blinks orange. After 30 seconds it fixes itself and the internet returns, but the temporary loss of connection everytime someone enters or leaves the most used room in the house is very, very frustrating. This started happening a week ago. Can you help?

Hii,

* If you can connect after disconnecting power and reconnecting, it means there is formation of static charge on modem

* Check whether there is any cordless phone or any other satellite devices next to the modem. If so, move the modem 10 feet away.

* If your modem is placed on carpet, please place it on wooden desk

For guest:
Do you see the power is also interrupted while loosing connection? If so try plugging the modem into different socket. Dont waste money for simple problems.

If this doesnt work, please dont rate me down, if it works, please rate me as fixya!!! lol...

Have a nice day!!!

SOURCE: Modem won't connect to internet.

maybe you have to wait for your provider for them to isolate the problem, it seems that your modem got hit maybe by high surge. ask them to bring a spare modem for isolation.. there is no way for you to isolate the problem coz you've already done the basic....

SOURCE: 2wire 2701HG-B got red light on power & green light on wireless

Issue that you have mentioned its very common among 2Wire modems. Most of the cases we have diagnosed Modem usually OK but the AC Adapter, AC adapter somehow comes from 3rd party with low quality production. Due to its circuit design internal heat dries up the DC output capacitors. So DC output comes up with ripple and it cause modem to not work properly. You may change the AC adapter or you can change its Capacitors. Same rate AC adapters will work fine. Just make sure polarization is right.
If Issue continues you may post for further diagnosis

Check your DSL Filters on your house phones or anything connected to the phone line EXCEPT the modem. The modem should not have a filter on it. If this doesnt help I would recommend getting your ISP out to test the line because sometimes the resisitors or hardware in the box goes bad or at the DSLAM.

Flashing red power light

Try the following steps:
1. Disconnect the modem's power adapter.

2. Reinsert the power adapter directly into the wall socket.

3.Remove any power strips or surge protectors temporarily to ensure that these items are not preventing the modem proper operation. Note: Make sure that you are using the power adapter that came with your modem.

4. Plug the power adapter into a different wall socket in another room.

5. Press the reset and hold the reset button for 1 minute. Then turn it off for 1 minute, and then turn it back on.

6. If the power light is still red, then you will need to get a replacement.

I am trying to use the fax facility on my epson600fw.my isp is aol .Problem no dial tone. What connections are necessary............via printer, modem & computer ?

Typically, a fax machine is connected directly to a telephone wall jack with a known working connection. Try plugging the fax machine directly into a wall jack first and pick up the handset on the fax machine if it has one. You should get a dial tone. Then try to fax something to someone you know.

The machine can also usually be routed through the modem in a computer by connecting the "line" cord on the modem to the wall jack and plugging the fax machine into the the "phone" jack on the modem. You may need to install the software that came with the fax machine to get this to work.

If you have no dial tone, check the wall jack with a known to be working single line phone. If there is a dial tone, it's something to do with fax machine, the computer modem or the connections.

Some fax machines can take advantage of internet faxing through a cable modem or DSL connection. Check your manual for the options available.

I have no computer or cable and need to set up internet on my PS3

??? A router will NOT replace your modem; the router won't work without the modem. If you're going to give advice, please make sure it is somewhat correct.

Okay. So first you need the telephone cord to go from the phone jack into the DSL port on your modem. Then you need the Ethernet cable that came with your modem (looks like a phone cord but much bigger) to go from the ethernet port in the back of the modem into the wan or internet port on the router. Verify that the DSL and internet lights are on on the modem.

For the rest of the setup, watch this . It will walk you step by step in connecting your PS3 to the wireless internet. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Xbox Live On Westell C90-610030-06 Isn't Working

if this is the original xbox you have to use a crossover cable especially if your router is the same as your modem (both the same box) (try google for the crossover cable instructions.) if this is the 360 it should just work, also how is your router plugged into your modem or are they the same thing. If that is the case go get a linksys router and set it up so that your modem-router combo plugs into the linksys router which plugs into your xbox (note that this is a fix for the original to.)

Xbox live stops working

It is a conflict with your router and modem. If you have a WRT54G linksys router and a Ae60 modem then this conflict will happen. To stop it, buy a new modem or router OR connect to XBox LIVE wirelessly using the XBox 360 wireless adapter ($100).

New Home, existing system, no information on what current access code is

Powering down for several hours should reset the code to 1234.

To power down, find where it plugs into the wall. It'll be a big plug, about the size of your fist ( a three-inch, block style plug), black, white or beige in color, probably a little screw holding it in. It may be directly below the panel or could be in the room on the other side of the wall of the panel. Otherwise, it may be in a garage, basement or attic. It may be in a weird place, like behind a couch in the living room or on the ceiling in the garage. Good luck finding it!

Next, disconnect the back up battery. This can be tricky because it's really easy to break the little tab that holds the compartment shut. With the cover open, look at the top of the panel or the sides/corners. CAREFULLY push the tab, open the cover and disconnect the battery.

Leave it powered down for 24 hours and then plug in the battery first, then plug it into the wall. The code should (hopefully) be 1234 now.
