SOURCE: Cannot find wireless switch for my Gateway cx2610

It probably is a small switch on the front or the sides of the computer. If there is not one, then it is Fn+something like F2.

SOURCE: i have a gateway laptop computer thats wireless.

First, look at the status lights that indicate what is going on with the computer, they are the line of light icons that run along the bottom of the touchpad. The wireless icon is the second from the left. Is it on or off? If it is lit, it is on....if it is off, the wireless is off. If none of the lights are on, the lights be turned off....try holding down the "Fn" key and tap the F1 key, this toggles the status lights on and off. The notebook ships with the wireless radio turned off. The radio is turned on and off by a system key combination. In the case of your laptop, hold the "Fn" key down and tap the F2 key...this toggles the radio on and off.

I don't know how to turn on the wireless capability on myself?

What type of computer Desktop or Laptop & Make ???...

If your computer will not connect to a wireless Internet signal, one of the first things to check is whether your computer's wireless switch is turned on.
Many laptop computers have a switch located on the exterior of the computer that controls its ability to connect to wireless networks.
This switch can be accidentally turned off, preventing users from connecting to the Internet.

Determine if your computer's wireless connectivity has been disabled by viewing the network icon in the lower toolbar on your computer's desktop.
When there is a disruption in your computer's Internet connection, the icon will have a red X through it. For further information, go to the computer's Network and Sharing Center where you can troubleshoot connectivity issues and view available wireless networks.
If the computer isn't recognizing any wireless connections (and you're sure that there are wireless signals in your area), the likely problem is that the wireless switch is turned off.
Locate the wireless switch on your computer.
It may be located on either side of the laptop or along the back or front.
If you aren't sure whether your computer has a wireless switch, check the user guide that came with the unit.
Determine whether the switch is currently in the "On" or "Off" position.
The switch will be clearly labeled.
Push the switch in the direction of the "On" position to ensure that it is turned on.
If the switch was already turned on, see if there is a keyboard combination that will activate your laptop's wireless capability.
The key combination for your laptop will depend on your computer's manufacturer, but will generally involve a combination of the Function, Control or Alt and the F1 to F12 keys.
Check your user manual for your computer's key combination.

Wireless capability is turned off on a Toshiba L40-10U with an ATheros AR5007EG

You have two computers doing the same thing? Is the WLAN disabled in software? I recently had a similar issue, it didn't list in Device Manager, I opened the Sony all-in-one , removed the Wireless Adapter Card and used some Electronic Contact Cleaner to clean the card contacts, reinserted the card and so far it's working. Yes you do have to keep up with the tiny screws. Question, Why rely on a neighbors wireless? That would be a unknown in the troubleshooting procedure that must be eliminated. Although, it may be a hardware gremlin, as you suspect. But two computers with the same issue? Sound like a Wireless signal issue? How many devices are running on the Wireless signal?

How do you turn on wireless capability on Samsung laptop?

there may be a hardware switch on the front or side of the laptop, in most machines it's on the left side near the front. if you can't find one, look at the fn keys and see if you can find one that has a picture that looks similar to this ((0))
'
press the fn key and the corresponding f1-f12 key. if that doesn't work

press the windows key and the R key at the same time and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. click network adapters and make sure that the wireless is enabled there. if it isn't there's your problem, if there's an exclamation point or question mark there is either a problem with the device driver or the device itself.

let me know!!

hi there.
Try this 1

1) Click on start --> In search bar, type ncpa.cpl and press Enter.

"Network Connections" will be opened.

2) Right-click on your "Wireless Network Adapter" --> Properties -->

Select "Internet Protocol Version(TCP/IPv4) --> Click on "Properties"

button --> Make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected

--> Click on OK --> OK.

3) If the problem still exists then check your SSID and the wireless password.
Function F3 no longer turns on the wireless on my Acer Aspire 5253 laptop.
Do you receive any message or code while turning on wifi?
There is a tiny switch on the side of the laptop (on in the front) that turns the wireless ON/OFF. Make sure you've switched it on.
Method 1: Run the network troubleshooter and check if it fixes the issue:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Using-the-Network-troubleshooter-in-Windows-7
Method 2: Do the following to change the wifi settings:
a.Click Start, type network and sharing center in the Start search box and hit Enter.
b.Click Change adapter settings.
c.Right-click the connection and select Enable.

To know more about how to "Set up a wireless network".

How can I turn on the wireless capability on my Asus G60VX laptop? the switch on the front left is on and still nothing. trouble shooting says wireless capability is turned off. it was working fine untill...

I can figure out that your laptop runs Windows Vista. Go to Control panel, then Network and Sharing centre and then go to Manage Network Connections and see if the Wireless Network Connections icon is disabled, make sure it is enabled and not connected. Try disabling and enabling it again. If still no go, try to manually turn off the wireless switch and turn it back ON. Check the light status (if any), confirm the error message too. If still, it seems not to be working, then the internal switching might have gone bad. You need to get the laptop serviced.
