Hi,blank screen is usually caused by bad screen or flex depending on the type of phone you are using at the moment.
If the phone is a flex phone that means you will need to check both the screen and the flex.(flex makes the screen to display).
When you replace the screen,the phone display will be working again.

Possibly just faulty flex cable,not the entire monitor.


I had similar trouble on my 2nd hand HC32 no picture,no light,no response on touch-screen function - turned out to be faulty flex cable that runs between LCD and the main body.

Cost me around 60 USD to fix by non-SONY service shop.Now it works like new.Worth every dime for this outdated camcorder.

the flex cable between the camera and the lcd display might be broken. contact a service!

I have been facing the same problem with same model and this is permanent problem it seems with this model (Sony Cybershot DSC S40). It causes because of the following:

SYMPTOMS
LCD display is either blank or WHITE. When the cabinet is opened or LCD flexible cable is
touched, the symptom disappears. This is caused by connection defect or poor contact between connector and LCD flex cable due to the pressure or stress created by the rib in the front cabinet
to the connector.

Send me a email and I shall send you the solution (two files) received from Sony authorized person. You have to open the camera to solve this. Do not open the camera . Just get the idea about where the problem is. I never opened the camera even after seeing this solution 2 yrs back. However, I have a plan for going to service centre with this solution. I hope they can open the camera and solve this. But not getting time to go there in service centre.

I used the following temporary solution and it works to get LCD in its normal condition:

LCD looks like a rectangle is not it? Hold the camera in its normal position as you are going to take a picture (camera is switched on and you are not seeing anything in the LCD, which looks white or dull). Now GENTLY PRESS by the thumb of your right hand at a place near to LCD at the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the rectangle (remember not on the LCD (rectangle) but just outside of it) until you see the normal colour of your LCD. Do few times starting with less pressure and then slightly increase it untill you see a normal LCD. I have been following this procedure for the last 2 yrs and not feeling to go for serving. (This solution I found in a forum only).

the flex wire of the lcd monitor is already cut ...go the service center for replacement of the flex wire...or to the other service center for fixing the flex wire...it is to difficult to fix the wire if you are not a technician cause that wire is like a strand of hair...

hi, this usually happens with the ribon cable which is giving power and signal to LCD is becoming loose or damaged due to folding..since the LCD wiring replacemet is a skill needed task i recommend you to give it to the nearest service centre so that your cam will be ready for future shots all the best my friend sreejith

flex wire has been cut on the lcd monitor that why you do not see an image..go to the sony service for replacing the flex wire...

Its probably a broken flex cable or the LCD is bad now because of all the flicking going on?? The flex cables about 15 bucks depending on where you get it but if your not good with really tiny electronics I would let a pro do the repair for you as you can cause alot of damage, as you could break other flex cables just taking it apart.
