GARAGE DOOR OPENS BUT WILL NOT CLOSE AUTOMATICALLY

GARAGE DOOR OPENS AUTOMATICALLY BUT TO CLOSE, WALL UNIT BUTTON MUST BE HELD DOWN UNTIL DOOR TOUCHES FLOOR, OTHERWISE DOOR WILL MOVE DOWN ABOUT 6 TO 12 INCHES AND THEN REVERSE ITSELF. THIS IS ALSO THE CASE WITH THE DOOR DISCONNECTED FROM THE SLIDER ON THE RAIL. SENSORS ARE ALIGNED AND GREEN LIGHT IS ON. SENSORS REACT PROPERLY WHEN BEAM IS BROKEN. NO OBSTRUCTIONS FOUND ON RAIL OR DOOR TRACKS. OPENER IS CRAFTSMAN 1/2 HP CHAIN DRIVE. MODEL # 139.53975SRT1

Yes, bulb on motor is flashing 10 times. I have looked closely at sensors and one has sustained some external damage, so I will try replacing it and follow up on results. Thank You !!!!

Sorry for the delay in responding to all the helpful suggestions. Because of the bulb flashing 10 times, I replaced both sensors(even though the green light was working properly) and it did fix the problem. Thank You to all for the help. I really appreciate it !!!

Is bulb on motor flashing 10 times. then you have electric eye problem. otherwise, sounds like you need to increase down force a hair. adjustement is on logic board, right knob.

Ihad the same problem, and fixed. it is very likely the infrared eye that is a safety protection.either the wire is loose or something is blocking one of the electric eyes located on either side of the garage door near floor (on each side)

My garage door opener opens with wall button but button must be held down until door touches floor to close. This unit is a liftmaster HBW0777 Model K1027 & does not have a sensor system

I think the issue is a missing sensor safety system. Try jumping a wire between terminals two and three. Then the wall button should work on a single short push.

I have a Sears craftsman model 139.53637SRT garage door opener. My remote has not worked in a long time. I use the wall control button and have to hold the button in order to open or close the garage door....

It sounds like your door sensors may be bad or misaligned. Make sure the small light on each sensor is lit and not flickering. That could be the cause of your having to hold the wall button down until the door is closed. You can buy a universal remote but if you only had one remote before it could be the receiver that has quit. A new remote would not fix that but the only way to find out is to try.

My garage door opener opens with remote but will not close with remote. will open with wall button but button must be held down until door touches floor to close

Check the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

Wall mount button LED is flashing, remotes won't work, door won't close unless the wall mount button is held down until the door is fully closed

Sounds like you have a couple problems. First of all press and hold the button on the wall control that has a lock icon for 3 seconds and release. This should take care of the flashing LED and the remotes will now work. Having to hold the button on the wall control until the door is closed is usually a problem with the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each is lit and not flickering.

Must hold wall unit to close garage door...

there is an error in the system. most likely The safety beams (mounted on the track near the floor) are out of alignment and the LED light should be blinking. The garage door opener will not let the door close if the beams are misaligned. Realign them and the LEDs on the beam or on the operator will stay on. you should be able close the door now with one push.
