My unit has been having problems burning and coping homemade DVD's. The bottom drive is not even recognizing a dvd is in there, and the top one is the only one I can use. So instead of standalone, I have to use it as an external drive with my computer. The top drive I put the master dvd in, and the computer drive is the copier. Yesterday I wasted 4 discs trying to copy because I got the message "unspecified recorder error" after about 2-3 minutes of it burning. What do I do?
Thanks - Paul

When you get no disk error, that is usually because of a problem with the
optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start
operating on certain disks better than others.
In that case you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but
the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read,
therefore the error.
Whe this problem is starting you may be able to read only CD, DVD, or for example only DVD-R and not +R , or only to read and
not to write and so on. After more prolonged usage , often the unit goes losing the rest of functions, and ends up not reading anything at all.
If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This situation is far less common than the lens problem.
Try first using a CD/DVD cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does
not work you will need to disassemble the drive , and clean lens
directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the CD/DVD RW drive unit.
SOURCE: Keep getting "Target Overflow" error message, even
you may have a bad ROM. If you have a multiple target unit, switch the source from the ROM to one of writers and try copying that way, if it copies then it confirms that the ROM is defective.
If you have a Single target unit, check your master disc under disc info, depending on which controller you have it should be under utility or disc info. Once in disc info it should tell you the size of your master disc, for DVD-R it should be under 4488MB, for DVD+R it should be under 4482MB. Then double check the master in the PC just to confirm.

Digestguy1: Normally, when a disc is not detected in the bottom drive, the blank disc may be to blame. What type of media, and the manufacturer, is being used for the blank disc? Please let us know and thank you for your help and in using EZ Dupe products. Sincerely, EZ Dupe Tech Support
