Kenmore Tumble Action Washer won't go to spin cycle

A repairman came out and said that there is something wrong with the drum... not sure how much it will cost... does anyone have a solution for this problem? (other than purchasing a new one).  It's 2 1/2 years old... thanks!

Im a repairman, lets reason this out.if washer wont spin because the tub is so warped that when it spins its so out of balance then ok new tub.or the tub welds are broken and some part is dragging and not letting it spin then ok new tub.or spin bearing has failed and ruined tub support shaft,ok new tub.but why else would you need a new tub for a no spin problem, not sure, and to answer your other question , can you fix the tub if any of the above problem exist.no you would have to replace tub.i hope that helps,God bless ,tom....ps if i have been helpful please remember to help me with my ratings, tom

SOURCE: Kenmore tumble action washer problem

It appears your timer has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Loose drum bangs during spin cycle turn by hand with nothing in drum and still bangs?

your front drum support blocks have failed. remove the tub and, replace or, rebolt them in place so they hold the drum front in place.

Something rattling under the drum

Strangely enough, I found the problem to be in the motor. If the noise becomes pronounced during the high speed spin cycle, then that is the problem. I had a repairman out for mine and they wanted to replace the drum, however when I took off the back and removed the belt, I could turn the drum separate from the motor and could hear that the problem was in the motor bearing, not the drum. Hope this helps.

Drum doesn't move or spin

kenmore tumble action washer model#417.44152400,
Washer is approximately 3 years old. Will not drain or spin. When it tries to spin, clicking noise heard inside of unit. Would a clog insie the lines disable the spin cycle ?

Kenmore spin cycle thumping noises

I just went through the same issue with my Kenmore front loading washing machine. I assumed (and a Sears repairman also told me) that it is the bearings. After I took the drum assembly out, I saw the rear drum broken and the inner tub hitting the outer tub. I ordered the outer drum assembly and only when I took the inner drum assembly out I realized the the "Spider" attached to the inner drum (and spindle) was broken. Entire drum assembly cost $417 + shipping and it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new washer. I like the front loaders because they save water and good for the environment, but the US manufacturers have not yet perfected the technology like European manufacturers (or they don't want the machines to last too long just like cars). Anyway, I am looking into welding the spider tomorrow. If not will return the outer tub assembly and buy a top loading washer for $300!
