Hi Kelly,
I believe the Sony Trinitron WEGAs do not have an HDMI connection on the back of the TV. If they do it would be labeled as HDMI input below that familiar looking HDMI narrow horizontal connector. But I believe what you have is the RGB connector which looks like three round female connectors which are color coated Red Green and Blue. Now these RGB connectors are a form of high definition but it's not a direct connect for for your HDMI DVD player or your XBOX 360 or what ever you want to hook the TV up to.
You'll have to convert you HDMI to RGB. you can still purchase DVD players with RGB outputs but if you already have a device that requires a TV with HDMI, you can buy a converter. Go to RadioShack or BestBuy or search online for a HDMI to RGB converter cable . It should look something like the picture below.
RED GREEN AND BLUE for video. And then the white and red connectors that are banded together are for your audio.
Good Luck
the tv's hdmi connection is an INPUT, not an output. to get tv sound through hdmi, you have to connect the hdmi OUTPUT from a dvd/blue ray or a cable/satellite box. your tv may have digital audio out on a seperate jack, possibly a fiber optics connection, which you may be able to run into your stereo. however, most tv's do not have audio outputs, you have to get the audio signal from a disk player or cable box 99% orf the time.
If the devices have HDMI connections you can pass the 5.1 signals via them. If the Speaker has only one HDMI socket you can get a splitter to feed the picture to the TV and sound to the unit.
If it doesn't have an HDMI then you have bought a pig in a poke.
Check HDMI Sound settings: Enter Setup menu via remote, then Func. Setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose from Amp (sound will be played via Yamaha), TV (sound will go straight via HDMI out to your TV and not play on Yamaha) and Amp+TV (Yamaha will play the sound and also pass it to the TV). Also what is your source? DVD or some network player? For example Yamaha cannot decode audio in AAC or other computer formats, so be sure to change the audio settings of your player to output PCM and not raw/bitstream.
Optical carries only 5.1 sound, no video. HDMI carries both video and sound. If your receiver doesn't have HDMI, check your TV for optical output. You can go BluRay to TV via HDMI, then TV to receiver via optical.
If you don't have optical out on your tv, you're going to need either a receiver with HDMI or a BluRay player with component output (blue, green, red).
Hi, First try with yellow video output of DAV-S500 in yellow video TV input to get its picture. (yellow output means composite video out) Green-Blue-Red video output is component output that will be turn on when you switch the unit into Progressive picture mode, that option would be available in Menu of DAV-S500 Hope this info will help you. Thanks.
HDMI outputs from devices such as DVD players do carry both video and audio, but the HDMI output from your computer video card only carries video. You'll need to connect a cable from the computer sound output to the TV as well.
Hi, You have connected from PC to TV right??? 1.To get the video you have to connect to TV 2.Please take a separate cables for to listen audio and to watch video, for audio connect cables from DVD Player to Home Theater you can listen the audio for video please connect the HDMI video to TV Where You can enjoy both.
You need to set up the out put of your DVD player. First hook up a non hdmi output to the tv, either component or coax. You don't need to hook up the audio. You should get a picture from this connection. Then you can go into the menu and set your hdmi output to match your tv, probably 1080i. You may have to turn your volume up higher when using the hdmi cable than not. I hooked my audio up directly to a surround sound and don't use the tv's speakers.
