If you've had a paper jam, normally after you clear it, a small amount of paper sometimes gets left behind and gets shunted onto the sidewall of the printer by the carriage, which stops the carriage reaching its full travel and throwing up an error, rendering the printer unable to print or carry out any other function. Simply remove the paper and switch printer off and on and it will reset. If you have an error of any other kind, many remedies and fixes for these can be found on my website http://www.the-inkstore.co.uk/frame/pages/epson.htm
my brother mfc 7860 tells me i have a jam when i print envelopes only- there is no jam and will print the next 'page' fine- have to turn it on and off 4-5 times to get it to print one- any ideas anyone???
Try resetting the printer by unplugging the printer from the power source for 5 mins. and they make sure ink is full and paper is loaded and not jammed. If not resolved carefully remove all ink cart from machine without touching and ink cart metal contacts, reseat the ink cart and reset and the printer.
There are 2 possibility to cause your printer acting like this: 1) Green Off, Red Fast-Flashing = Paper Jam or waiting for jam reset. 2) Green Off, Red Slow-Flashing = Paper Empty or Paper tray is not inserted.
If it is condition 1) then just remove the jam paper then open and close the Top Cover to clear the error. If it is condition 2) then insert some paper in the paper tray.
There are actually some certain meaning on the red light and green
light showing different information to user. The summaries are: 1) Green On, Red Off = Printer Ready. 2) Green Fast-Flashing, Red Fast-Flashing = Printer warm up. 3) Green Fast-Flashing, Red Off = Printer off-line. 4) Green Slow-Flashing, Red Off = Processing Data. 5) Green Off, Red On = Cover Opened, Toner Empty or Developer Unit / Drum unit missing. 6) Green Off, Red Fast-Flashing = Paper Jam or waiting for jam reset. 7) Green Off, Red Slow-Flashing = Paper Empty or Paper tray is not inserted. 8) Green Off, Red Off = Printer power is off. 9) Green Very-Slow-Flashing, Red Off = Printer in sleep mode. 10) Green (any condition above), Red Slow-Flashing = Toner low or paper empty.
So what is your printer condition? Better know what is going on your printer so can solve the problem.
If the paper is lodged too far into the printer and can't be removed: Press the power button to turn the printer off. Pull firmly on the paper to remove it. If you can't reach the paper because it is too far in, raise the front cover and remove the paper from the front of the printer. Close the front cover. Press the power button to turn the printer back on. Resend your document to print.
Ensure that: The paper is a recommended paper for inkjet printers. You do not force the paper down into the printer when you load it. For example, if you are loading letter or A4 size paper, the top edge of the paper should extend above the top of the sheet feeder. The printer is on a flat, level surface. The left paper guide is against the side of the paper. You do not load too much paper in the sheet feeder. Depending on the thickness of your paper, the sheet feeder can hold up to 100 sheets of paper. The left paper guide does not cause the paper to bend in the sheet feeder. Your printer feeds regular paper as expected. If regular paper feeds without causing problems, load the envelopes vertically against the right side of the sheet feeder. Make sure the paper guide is against the side of the envelopes. Envelopes or the appropriate specialty papers are selected in the printer driver. You are using a paper or envelope size supported by your printer.
