Machine has been leveled carefully and problem still persists. Front boot seal was ruined (not sure how) and has been previously replaced. Along with the banging is a metallic scraping noise. When hand turning the drum, it is smooth and silent, but if you very slightly push the drum toward the rear of the machine (takes just one finger pressure and 1/6" movement) it contacts a metallic part - and if you then turn the drum it will make the scraping sound heard during the spin cycle/banging out of balance episodes. Just a thought, but It seems there should be more movement than 1/6" before any contact in any direction. Any insight would be appreciated
OK, lets see if I can help you. First, remove the 2 screws that are on the rear of the top panel, slide the panel back about 1/2 inch and lift the top off. Look at the rear bearings and any other visible signs of malfunction. Also, be sure to check the suspension for anything that may be loose. Post your findings back to me.

Testimonial: "I'm sorry I'm so slow to reply. This solution sounded very reasonable and I'm sure that's what the problem was. However, the owner decided to call a repair person out as there were other appliances in the rental with issues! So we appreciate your response but won't be on the case any longer!"
SOURCE: off balance spin/poor wringing
CHECK TO MAKE SURE ALL THE SUSPENSION SPRINGS ARE CONNECTED INSIDE THE WASHER. IF SO, THERE IS A SNUBBER UNDER THE WASHER MILKSTOOL THAT IS MADE OUT OF PLASTIC THAT CAN WEAR AND NOT ALLOW THE SUSPENSION TO GLIDE LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO. NOT THE EASIEST FIX DUE TO THE BRAKE BEING UNDER HEAVY SPRING PRESSURE. USE CAUTION
SOURCE: off balance during spin cycle
I have a Performa Model PAV3200AWW that would go unbalanced every time it would go into a spin cycle. I found the problem to be a worn out snubber. This is a plastic ring that is at the pivot point for the whole tub. It separates the metal to metal contact at the bottom of the washer pivot point. The part is less than ten dollars, but it is a quit a job to replace. I had to remove the whole tub to replace mine, but it did solve the problem. If you see a lot of plastic shavings around the pivot point, then this could be your problem.

There was a recall on the washer base, which caused the unbalanced problem. Find Technical Buletin TDL-0050B-B issued by Matag.
