Smeg 90cm oven - removing inner glass plate of door

I would like to remove the inner glass plate from the door of my Smeg 90cm oven so that I can clean it thoroughly. There does not seem to be any obvious method for removing it - no screws or bolts. There are screws nearer the edge of the inside surface of the door but they don't seem to be directly related to the glass plate. Does anyone know if there is a way to remove this plate?

First you have to unmount the door from your oven (descriped in the manual how to do).
Then next, remove the screws that you have mentioned already of the inside of the door (the inner glass plate is mounted by adhesive on the outer part of the door). After yo have removed the screws, the inner door can be parted from the outer door. Wupti - now you are able to clean the inner side of the glass platen of the oven door.

How do I clean between the glass?

Hello Alison;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

This is a bit of a task.

1.) Remove the oven door - Put the door in the first locking position (Opened partly at the top) Pull straight up. When replacing the oven door make sure the door hinges are in the same first open position.
2.) Lay the door face down on the floor.
3.) Remove the back panel. You may have torque screws requiring a special screw driver.
4.) Remove the door latch assembly. But first take a picture of the latch so you can reassembly properly.
5.) Remove the oven glass retaining brackets/plates.
6.) Remove the inner glass.

When you are doing this task make sure you lay out the parts in the order in which they were removed for re-assembly.

How do I take the glass out my oven door model AP578X-8

Hi, I have pasted the instructions for your Smeg oven you below:
9.4 Removing the internal glass panels
The glass in the door should always be kept thoroughly clean. To facilitate
cleaning, it is possible to remove the door (see 9.2 Removing the door) and
place it on a canvas, or open it and lock the hinges in order to extract the glass
panels.
The glass panels of the door can be completely removed by following the
instructions provided below.
Warning: before removing the glass panels, make sure that at least one of the
door's hinges has been locked in the open position as described in "9.2
Removing the door". This operation may have to be repeated during the glass
removal process if the door is accidentally freed.

Removing the internal glass panel:
• Remove the internal glass panel by
pulling it upwards, following the
movement indicated by the arrows. Doing
this detaches the 4 pins attached to the
glass from their slots in the oven door.
Removing the intermediate glass panels
(on some models only):
• Some multifunction models have an
intermediate glass panel. Remove the
intermediate panel by lifting it upwards.
Cleaning:
• It is now possible to clean the external
glass panel and the panels removed
previously. Use absorbent kitchen roll. In
the case of stubborn dirt, wash with a
damp sponge and neutral detergent.
Replacing the glass panels:
• Replace the panels in the reverse of the
order in which they were removed.
• Reposition the internal glass panel, taking
care to centre and insert the 4 pins
attached to the glass into their slots in the
oven door by applying slight pressure.

The front glass blew out of it! Completely shattered and no one had touched it. Now we need to clean it up. I suppose we need to take off the door and get a new one. OR do we get a new glass plate and...

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly.

Since you did not include a model number this solution will be from the hip as I can not refer to any manuals to assist you. Most ovens the oven door comes off by tilting the door out to the first stop and then lifting is vertical inline with the position of the hinge at the bottom of the door. Some of them may have retaining screws on the inside of the door to keep the door attached to the hinge area that must be removed FIRST. The hinge itself should stay attached to the oven.

I can probably provide you with a source (Maybe more than one) for the door glass if you respond with a model number,

When you attempt to take the door apart lay it down on 2 rugs so you do not scratch it. Use some blocks of wood UNDER the rugs to prop the door up so as not to damage the handle.

The door glass is replaced by removing the screws from the indide of the door. Sometimes you have to remove the trim pieces in addition to the multiple door panels. Everything is done from the inside of the door. You must take out the inner panel, Then the inner glass, then the spacer, the insulation if any and finally the outer door glass. Reassembly is in reverse order. Outer glass, spacer, insulation if any inner glass, the inner panel and re-install the trim if you had to remove it.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Replace inner oven door glass on kitchenaid wall oven

To replace the door glass do the following:

0 Check if there is a hinge stop bracket located at the hinge point of entry on the oven, in that case remove it.
1 remove the oven door by pulling it up and removing from the the hinges. If glass is broken , then secure glass with tape. Have a table with a cloth on top ready to lay the door.
2 Remove the outer screws , starting from lower side of the panel.
3Removethe inner screws. Keep all set of screws ordered, and take note of theorder you remove them. You will follow reverse order in reassembly.
4 the frame will be free now,
5 Remove the external glass panel and leave it in a safe place.
6 Replace the inner glass.
7 Clean outer glass and metal door, re-assemble it and mount it back

I also report testimonials for your model:

"
removed the door from the oven by releasing clips attached to the door hinge -- very nicely engineered. Removed about 6 philips head screws to allow the door assembly to be taken apart for access to the glass. Lifted out the broken glass, cleaned the inside of the door, installed the new glass, reassembled the door (a two minute project), and reattached the door to the oven. Cleaning the inside of the door"

"
I removed the oven door by lifting it off with the hinges. Disassembled the door parts one at time making sure I remember where I removed the screws until I am able to get to the broken glass. The most difficult part is making sure that the insulation strip & the gasket stayed in place after I replaced the broken glass & doing the reverse process of installing the parts together. Relatively easy process as long as you remember where the parts go. When in doubt, I had to refer to the pictorial of the disassembled door shown on your website. "

Smeg se336ss 5 some so and so has broken the outer glass door!

We removed the front glass of our oven door after a big spill between the two glass sections (by blunt force!). Since it took us 4 hours to put back together, we wanted to spread the info in case any others have the misfortune to make this mistake! Note, I wouldn't do this unless you have to, just incase you can't get your door back together again.

Assuming the back sheet of oven glass is still in position, but the front sheet is not attached -

1. Follow the manual instructions to remove the door, ensuring that both hinges are locked fully (otherwise you won't be able to get the door back on easily)

2. Once the door is removed, ensure that the plastic spacers that hold the two sheets of glass apart are in original position, resting on the inner door, at the bottom corners of the tempered glass

3. Remove the narrow metal strip at the bottom of the inner door by unscrewing the 3 screws that hold it in place. This is the metal groove that the outer pane of glass needs to rest in

4. Lay the outer sheet of glass in position in this metal strip

5. Lay the outer sheet of glass over the inner door. Slot the outer sheet into position at the top of the inner door first, ensuring it is layed flush at the top.

6. A second person needs to ease the metal strip back into place at the bottom of the inner door, so that the two sheets of glass are now held together at both top and bottom.

7. Screw the metal strip back into position with the 3 screws

8. Follow the manual instructions to replace the door. Ensure that the small grooves at the bottom of both hinges are resting in position correctly, otherwise the door will not close flushly.
