Amana refrigerator BB20VPSE, The compressor runs, but the evaporator fan doesn't. there is no power to the fan?

Many Amana model fridges have the freezer fan wired through the bi-metal thermostat that is clipped to the evaporator. Either your compressor has a bad start device and that is why it is not cooling, or the compressor IS running and the unit has lost its refrigerant charge. Running compressor with no cooling = buy a new fridge.

If the freezer is not freezing. I am guessing that the refrigerator is not cold also. Here is link to an Amana Refrigerator Not Freezing. You will need to narrow down parts that are working and are not working. I would first pull the refrigerator out to make sure that the compressor and the condenser fan are running(the condencer fan motor runs to cool the compressor down). This is a link to a GE refrigerator condenser fan motor problem. The compressor and condenser fan motor are in the same place. This can give an idea at least where it is at. Make sure that the evaporator fan motor in the freezer is running also. Make sure that the rear freezer wall is not iced over. This can be a defrost problem. See what a defrost problem is HERE. If your unit is sitting there with the lights on but you hear no noise from any fan motor or your compressor. Your unit may be in a defrost mode. Locate your defrost timer. It looks as tho it is either located in the front behind the kick plate or in the back by the compressor. could be the fan motor,compressor or when the compressor is running it could be vibration in the frame,what fan are you talking about,the condenser fan where the compressor is or the evap fan in the freezer?you just have to try and listen and feel the compressor and fan motor when it's running and try to tell were it's coming from,if it's the compressor just use it till it dies,it could run like that for years but i wouldn't take a chance,i would buy a new fridge if it's a fan motor i would fix it.

if the fan isn't running correctly change it out,you can remove the bottom back panel and stick a house fan back there for now so your compressor doesn't cook but change that fan motor out if it's bad.

This uses an 8 hour timer which means it goes into defrost every 8 hours shutting down the compressor and fan motor.

clean cond coil at back of unit.
check amp draw on the compressor wires.

It sounds like you found it. Change the defrost timer.

Hi. The most common failure for this make refrigerator is a bad evaporator fan motor. You should feel air coming out of the diffuser in your freezer. If not, either the fan motor is bad or you have alot of frost build up on the evaporator. You would see alot of frost on the back wall of the freezer where the evaporator coil is located. If this is the case, most likely the defrost bimetal thermostat. But if no frost, the evaporator fan motor is most common and likely to be your problem.
