Can't hear caller or dial-tone --Extremely faint but volume doesn' t help

My phone has the faintest sound on the other end. The dial tone and any caller or tone is barely audible. It didn't use to be this way. We haven't had the phone set that long. The volume doesn't help whatsoever. I have it sent on the highest (3) setting and it sounds terrible. Please, help. I can't locate my user's manual.

How to turn volume up for callers sound

You're going to do this during a call.

During the call,
  • You will press the "cid (up arrow)" or "pbk (down arrow)" buttons to display the current volume.
  • Then pressing either or those buttons again would bring the volume up or down of the caller/earpiece.
If you don't hear any difference, then the problem is most likely on the caller's end.

Can not hear dial tone or hear caller / can hear on speaker call

Most likely that it is the speaker on the handheld part of the phone. Your sound comes from the base itself when you put your current connection on Speaker-Call. So if you cannot hear the dial tone OR the person on the other end unless on "speaker" it's just the handheld and I believe there are places online you can purchase JUST that part if needed.

The caller ID screen is so faint I can't read it. Is there a way to brighten it or change the contrast so I can read it?

. Press and hold the dial/menu button until "Options Menu" is shown in the display.
2. Use the up/down buttons to scroll through the options below, and press the dial/menu
button to select the desired option you wish to set:
• Set Language
• Local Area Code
• Set Time/Date
• Set Flash Time
• LED Contrast
• Set Tone/Pulse
• Exit Options
3. Use the up/down buttons to adjust the setting, and press the dial/menu button to confirm
and set.
NOTE: It is important to set the Area code so that the telephone can distinguish local or long
distance calls when dialing from the Caller ID list.
NOTE: Time and Date will automatically set when you recieve the first or second Caller ID

The phone rings, states the number calling but you can't talk to the caller. When you answer the phone, the person on the other end can hear you, but you can't hear anything. You can't get a dial tone when...

The switch that the handpiece activates is not working. Could be optical, magnetic or physical. It may need cleaning, adjusting or a wire connection repaired. Also check the curly cord and its connections between the handpiece and telephone.

My phone is stuck on rotary dialing. My handset had all the options but the dial mode. After caller id setup it went straight to languages and then started back over with ringer volume.

1) When the phone is in the standby mode, press menu/mute.
2) Press - to move the pointer to “Dial Mode”.
3) Press select/ch and the display will show the current setting.
(The initial setting is Tone.)
4) Press + or - to change the selection.
5) Press select/ch and a confirmation tone will sound.
6) Press end to exit.

Kenwood KDC-BT838U -- Low audio on incoming phone calls only.

Patrick -
I have the reverse problem.  Callers can hardly hear me. I saw a setting in the headunit that allows you to specify where the audio plays for incoming calls.  You can choose the Left Front Speaker, the Right Front Speaker or Both.  Check the manual and make sure its set to both.
