The car has an automatic transmission and all of a sudden i had no reverse had no slipping or nothing the drive gears work fine no slipping grinding nothing shifts through all gears just fine

It may just need servicing/adjusting.

Your reverse gear is actually first gear ... when you select reverse another 'cog' fits into the toothed wheels to change the direction of first gear ... to give you reverse...

It may be a sticky valve or just a bit of adjustment (workshop job..) that is required.

What you can try ..

Start the car ... move the lever through all the positions several times (foot on brake..). Keep your foot on the brake and then put it in reverse and rev the car. Hard!

Try doing it several times.

An auto transmission works on valves opening and closing. Reverse gear - in comparison with the forward gears - is seldom used. The reverse valve can 'stick'. Try forcing it to open ... frighten it ... but keep your foot on the brake...

How do I fix it.do I have to lubricate somewhere?

The problem is that by driving in 4wd on hard surface you experience what is known as torque wind up in the transmission, transfer case and drive lines. This loads up the gears so an actuator cannot move a selection until the torque wind up is reduced (reverse or shunt back)
IT is not a problem if you are on slippery roads , gravel, grass or any surface where the tyres can slip and relieve the wind up
If you persist in the practice of driving in 4wd on hard surfaces then be prepared for transfer case , drive line problems well before expected wear time.

Hard to get into reverse

try shifting in to first and then reverse. reverse might be worn out. you can have that gear replaced without replacing the whole transmission.

Designer 1 reverse won't select, no light at all

The designer 1 has a weakness of the reverse pad (rubber button set) on left side of the machine wearing out and not working. You can try pushing from different angle, or pushing hard, but it most likely needs to be replaced. If you did buttonholes with the buttonhole sesor foot (foot with a wheel and a cord that plugs in), it would automatically size the buttonhole and you wouldn't need to reverse and you can use "FIX" to tie a knot instead of reverse
