G4 Footswitch wiring

I have ordered and replaced the footswitch mechanism for a Kirby G4. I had it running while pushing in safety switches before re-assembling. However, when I had put the handle back on it would no longer run. I am looking for a confirmation on the wiring in case I have switched the wrong ones. I could understand any instruction about references to wire connection on the footswitch such as the A (lower) or B (upper) male connectors, or the slot to the left of those. With reference to the origin of the wires that plug into the footswitch, I would understand "long" and "short" wire originating out of the top of the vaccuum , and "wire originating from below the footswitch" and "wire originating from 45-degree angle male connector near pulley". Or as an alternative, an image of wiring diagram would be helpful. THanks for any input

My kirby g4 motor runs backwards and so the power drive when pushed forward wants to go backwards. I need the wiring diagram so I can get it wired correctly.

The wires to the switch, coming from the carbon brushes, have been reversed. The carbon brush closest to the switch goes on the lower switch terminal.

I unscrewed the 4 screws on the bottom of my gen 3 mistakenly trying to replace wheels. now it turns on sometimes when the on button is pushed and sometimes it doesn't. is there an easy fix?

Easy fix... wow... um.. maybe.

I think that you may have accidently disconnected the metal arm between the foot pedal and the actual switch. Its not a problem, but you will have to open the top of the kirby unit to see if it has been disconnected or not. we are trying to get to the area above the wheels but below the foot switch.

first, take the handle and the bag off the unit and lay them down.
next, take the plastic covering around the switch off, you will need a flat screwdriver to take that off. the pry spot is just above the switch where you can slide in the screwdriver.
next, lift up the light and remove your belt/brush attchment off the front of the unit.
remove the 2 screws at the top portion looking just above the shaft sticking out of the unit.
remove the 2 screws behind the foot switch
you should see what looks like a 7/L chrome metal bar going between the footswitch and an orange plastic piece inside the unit where the bag goes. it should be inside the orange plastic piece and inside the lower portion of the footswitch.

I think that when you dropped the wheels it may have come off of the footswitch. re-attach and you should be good to go.

Good luck.

My Hoover U8143-900 does not stay "locked" in the upright position anymore?

Could be one of 3 things:

When you push it into the upright position can you manually pull the footswitch up and lock it? If so, the spring isn't set right. If the footswitch isn't moving at all, the plastic may be broke (Not so good), and if it's intermitted (As in you have to wiggle/fight with it to make it lock) it may just have crud in it. Canned air and some cleaning may fix it.

G4 kirby

ensure the safety switches are made properly by making sure the front brush assembly is fitted properly, you will see a tag that enters the machine making the front switch, secondly make sure the bag bottom housing is on properly and fully rotated so that its tag makes the switch on the side.
The only fuse is in the plug (UK).
Common fault is the mains lead broken internally, unplug from the side of the machine after removing the little cover where the wire goes in. You can use a kettle lead to test the hoover.
If this does not cure it most likely the motor brushes are worn.

Could be the a/c cord, a problem with the noozle not pushing the saftey switch, the bag emptor(bottom of outer bag) isn't on the of the way and not engaging the other safety switch. The other is a problem with the motor.

How to make it blow?

If you want the Kirby to blow, take the bag off down at the motor, and hook the coupling on your hose onto where the bag went. There is a little black lever sticking out of the vacuum that you can push forward with your finger. That's the safety switch. When you have the hose on correctly, it should push the safety switch and engage it. Also, there is a tool in your attachments that fits on the front of the vacuum when you're using the blower. It's so that you can take off the head of the vacuum, and put this other device in its place so that you don't have the brushroll spinning in place on your floor. It will have two hooks on it and look alot like a cup with a screen on it. It's to go in place of the head so that it will be pushing in the forward part of the safety switch. Also, put it in neutral before you switch it on. Good luck!!
