SOURCE: Kicking out water during wash cycle - spin instead of agitation

Hi,
Try these

  1. Check the drain hose, it should be at least as high as the top of the wash tub, about 38 inches.
  2. The drain hose must sit loosely in the house drain. Do not seal the air gap around the drain hose or a siphon will occur.
  3. Check the drain control lever
  4. Test the drain control coils
  5. Check the cam bar
pls rate my suggestion..

SOURCE: washer won't drain or spin

you need to check the water pump... it may be clogged with detergent or something to that effect.. or just replace the pump itself..

SOURCE: Agitator just stop working. Spin cycle will run.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump

removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

This problem points to a couple of places:

The first unfortunately is the motor. Kenmore / Whirlpool top load direct drive washers use a reversing motor.

When in agitate mode, the motor turn one way, When in spin mode it turns the other way for draining and spinning.

I'd check the following first before assuming that it's the motor though.

First, I'd pull the agitators and check for worn or damaged splines inside the agitator or on the agitator shaft.

Following is a description of how to take them out.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

If the agitator and shaft are OK, the problem may be in the transmission.

See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore installation and service manual for top load, direct drive washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/

$FILE/L-55.pdf

I'd also look at the troubleshooting section of the manual.

Starting at page 10, you'll see a description of how the transmission changes from agitate to spin mode.

The key (and likely problem) is the "agitator spring".

The spring holds the agitate gear down so that the two sets of splines on the agitate gear are connected and the agitate rack

can turn the agitators.

See the following Whirlpool parts list for a blow-up of the transmission and how the various gears and springs connect.

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10114743.pdf

See the following for how to remove the transmission and clutch.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

Tearing apart the transmission is a bit messy but if the problem is the spring or agitate cams, it's a lot less expensive to

fix than a $170 transmission.

Remove the clutch (the spring holding the clutch to the spin pinion is a bear to replace.

Remove the 8 transmission screws carefully, the transmission is full (15 oz.) of 80-90 weight oil.

Remove the transmission cover and drain the oil.

Pull off the spin pinion.

Carefully remove the clip that holds the main Spin Gear on and remove it.

Push down on the agitate spring and remove the spring clip. Note where is attaches to the main shaft.

Check the spring, Agitate Cams and the cams in the Neutral Drain Assembly.

Re-assembly is obviously the reverse of taking it apart.

If you're reasonably comfortable with tools you can fix it yourself.

When we had a problem with ours, we ended up spending less than $30 replacing the agitate cams, neutral drain assembly and oil instead of $170 for a transmission. It was worth fixing.

As an aside, tearing the washer apart will give you the opportunity to completely clean it..

As to the age of the washer. Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a part of the serial number to determine the year the washer was made..

Sounds like the lidswitch. As a safety, the tub will not spin if the door is up (open). In turn, it will not drain if it wont spin. This is a common problem with whirlpool washers. You can go to searspartsdirect.com to get the breakdown and order the part.

Washing Machines will not rinse or spin

If the water won't drain out of your washing machine, either something is stuck in the drain hose or pump, or the pump is broken. Both fixes are simple if you're even just a little bit handy with tools. We're showing the repair on a Maytag washing machine.
What is wrong with a washer that does not spin?
If your washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. (Note: Direct-drivewashing machines do not have belts.) To diagnose the problem, do the following: 1Check the washing machine's spin cycle.

What causes a washing machine not to drain and spin?
If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing.

Beko WMP652W washing machine will start cycle but get stuck at end of wash, doesnt go onto rinse or spin any help please?

see the next steps and use the common sense: God bless you
When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem: It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer. It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

After washing and rinsing it doesn't spin the water out.

Check the drain lines for clogs. If that checks out ok, then you probably have a bad drain pump.

Hi there, it sounds like your drain pump is not working. Tip the washing machine back and look underneath. The drain pump has a little black fan on it. Disconnect the hose to see if there's anything stuck in the drain, like coins, hair clips etc. Clear out the pump and remember to reconnect the hose securely before trying out the washing machine.
Please remember to rate this solution, thanks.

Lay the drain hose down to floor level, and drain of the water into something.
Then try it on spin, if it spins o/k, then the pump or filter is probably blocked.
Hope this helps.
