POST Beeps. My desktop HP Pavilion a220n and the connected monitor will not work. During the POST the PC makes 2 quick beeps and then six more slower beeps. I was told these beeps mean something specific is wrong. I have tried removing the graphics card that I had, because I thought it might be the problem. However the PC is still making the same sounds. What can I do?

HP Beep codes are listed here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07107&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=329076&dlc=en&lang=en None of them matches your description, so listen again and see if the pattern matches any described by HP. Have you tried the monitor on another computer? Did you connect to the onboard graphics connector? Look for any loose components, especially memory.

My HP pavilion will turn on but not start up

Have you tried connecting your PC to another monitor? I'm not seeing the monitor getting any signal. Also, is the computer making any clear internal beeping patterns? Like 2 quick beeps or long beeps etc?

We just got an HP Pavilion A1540N from my cousin, we are trying to boot it up and it beeps and the monitor turns on but goes right to sleep.

Will need the beep sequence the amount of beeps. The beeps lets ya know that there was something wrong in POST. Most likely cause would be the video card but need the beep sequence to be certain.

My "hp pavilion a220n" won't

Check all wires for loose connections--- if the memory was wrong or something, it would still attempt to boot but stop during the POST and start to beep

Repeated short beeps, no startup

The beeps are Power On Self Test (POST) beeps. Research them on the web, but here is a quick list.
After you know where the issue lies, you can proceed on those results...

My PC is making a beep sound and nothing is showing on the monitor. it is an hp tower desk top

Whenever you hear a system beep it means the system is hung due to a hardware error. How many beeps does it make? The number off beeps can help you dtermine what the issue may be. It could be a video card failure, cpu failure, ram failure, or even a power supply issue. The beeps aren't very specific but they can give you a starting point. Given that it is such a generic error code I would suggest taking the PC to a repair center. I wish I could be of more assistance. If you have any further questions please feel free to reply in this thread.

Quick question, did you upgrade any components prior to the error beeps?

1: open up the tower case and reset BIOS by removing the battery from the motherboard and switching jumper position. try turning on computer.
2: remove RAM sticks from the PC power on PC see results for any change, if no chnage stick one stick back at a time(if you have more than one) and then try it again.

post your results back and we will look to further troubleshoot the issue.

I hope this helps

I just purchased a slightly used HP m9340f Pavilion Media Center PC. It won't boot up... it just beeps. Nothing shows on the monitor.

The beeps normally are a code which tells you what problem has been detected and is keeping the computer from starting. You can find information about interpreting the beep codes and what to at HP's site here. The most common causes of beeps and no start is bad memory or video. I'd suggest making sure the memory modules are firmly seated in their sockets. It's possible that poor connections are keeping the memory from being properly detected.
