Belkin Router not allowing an Internet connection

I'm using a cable modem and it used to be plugged into my wirless router, then I had an ethernet cable running from the router into my PC's (I have 2 connected via cables, laptop via wireless). Now my router is not letting me connect to the internet on either PC, but it seems my home network is still running. The "connected" light just flashes when I think it should be on constantly and the WLAN light flickers like it should do. I've looked at everything on the setup menu and can't see anythings changed, in the internet status it says "not connected", I've even restored factory defaults and it's still not working. The only way I can get online is to plug my modem directly into one of my computers.

Anyone got any idea's as to why it's not working?

I'm having the same problem. I got a cable modem from time warner and I am able to connect if I hardwire my computer to the cable modem. If I try to connect wirelessly via the belkin router, I'm not able to connect to the internet. The "WAN" light is on but the"Connected" light on the router is blinking.

    Got this from the manual:

    Solution:
If you cannot connect to the Internet, the “WAN” light is on, and the “Connected” light is blinking, the problem may be that your connection type may not match the ISP’s connection.

    • If you have a “static IP address” connection, your ISP must assign you the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address. Please refer to the section entitled “Alternate Setup Method” for details on changing this setting.
    • If you have a “PPPoE” connection, your ISP will assign you a user name and password and sometimes a service name. Make sure the Router connection type is configured to PPPoE and the settings are entered properly. Please refer to your Router’s User Guide section entitled “Alternate Setup Method” for details on changing this setting.
    112 Troubleshooting
    • You may need to configure your Router to meet the specific requirements of your ISP. To search our Knowledge Base for
ISP-specific issues, go to:http://web.belkin.com/support and type in “ISP”
If you are still unable to access the Internet after verifying these settings, please contact Belkin Technical Support.

It's not unheard of for a router to fail. When you connected the computer to the Modem, did you use the same cable that was connected to the router? Does your internet connection require a username and password? If so, is that configured in your modem, or the router? If not in the modem it must be the router.

Belkin router won't work after factory restore anyway. You will have to setup the Belkin router again. You said your WAN light is blinking and it indicates you have internet issue from internet service provider. Follow some steps to confirm it.
1.Remove WAN cable connected between modem and Belkin router.
2.Connect that cable directly to your pc.
3.Restart modem and turn off the Belkin router.
4.Go to your pc and check are you getting internet.
5.In case still not getting internet means modem has no internet.
YOu should contact your ISP to fix the issue.

SOURCE: wlan lights off and now wirless access

Does your computer say Network cable unplugged?
If the wlan light is off, it means that your computer is not being detected by your router. You can try unplugging and replugging the ethernet cable at the back of the computer. Make sure that you hear a 'click' when you plug it back in to make sure tha it is properly seated. Check also the light on the wan port (desktops usually have lights..not sure about laptops though).
Do the same process with the ethernet cable but now from the other end--the one connected to the modem/router. if your modem/router have other ports on it, try to connect it to other ports as well. If you're wan light is still off, try using a different ethernet cable.
what's wrong with your wireless access? i can't read it from the title.

SOURCE: PC losing connections (ethernet) with Belkin router

This can be a problem with the firmware of the router, so the first thing that you can do to correct this problem is to do a firmware upgrade on the router and that should correct the problem......

Testimonial: "it certainly seems faster, even for the wireless machine. Thanks!!!"

SOURCE: Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

Setup belkin wireless network

Hi,
1.Connect a Cat5 cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your cable or DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the "Connect to Modem Internet/WAN" port on the back of the Belkin Router.
2.Connect a Cat5 cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of any desktop or stationary computers and then plug the other end of the cable into one of the LAN ports on the back of the Belkin Router. Start with port one and work your way up with subsequent computer connections.
3.Turn the Belkin Router on by plugging the router into a power outlet. Allow 30 seconds for the router to fully boot up. All computers tethered to the modem via a Cat5 cable have access to the Internet.
4.Open the Wi-Fi Wizard on your laptop and turn on the Wi-Fi antenna. Once turned on, the Wizard finds all network connections in your area. Connect to your network to establish an Internet connection. Complete this step for each computer not tethered to the Belkin Router with a Cat5 cable.

Belkin router can't connect to internet

This is part solution, part clarification request: When you say that you installed the setup software on your laptop, setup software for which: the modem, or the belkin router? Also what type of internet service do you have - Cable? DSL? If you are not sure, list your ISP. What operating systems do you have on your laptop and your main computer?

You say that you connected the modem to your main computer - I am assuming that you mean that you connected your modem with a network or ethernet cable (the one with a connector that looks similar to but larger than a telephone's connector) to your computer's ethernet card, or NIC, port. Is anything connected by ethernet cable to the Belkin router? If you have not connected the modem directly to the router, it will not connect to the internet, and anything connecting to the Belkin router will not be able to access the internet as well.

Try this: disconnected the power from your modem, then disconnect power from your router, and disconnect any ethernet cables from computer & modem, or computer and router. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the Belkin Router. (Ensure that you have plugged in the ethernet cable on the router into a port that is either set aside from others, or indicates "Internet", WAN, or something similar - it should be marked either with a different color, labled, or both). Now power on your modem. Wait until you see a steady "ready" light, green ethernet light, or the light usually lit for that model indicating it has completed its bootup tests and the internet connection is ready.
Next, ensure the ethernet cable is connected from the modem to correct WAN or "internet" port on the Belkin Router, then power up the router. Once the router boots up completely, plug in a cable from your computer's (main computer) NIC or ethernet card or port, to a port on the Belkin Router (there should be more than one port available, generally numbered "1, 2, 3" and so on - in a group, seperate from the WAN or internet port). Once you are sure you have the cable plugged into one of the correct ports, and if you have windows, restart your main computer.

Now on your main computer, check to see if you have an internet connection. If you do, you can now resume running the router's software setup on your laptop, which sounds as though it was walking you thru the setup process to connect you via wireless connection to the internet. Report back if you have any success, or if you have any further problems, and best of luck! Hope that info helps

Unplug your cable modem for 30 minutes. Also turn off the router. After 30 minutes, plug in ONLY the cable modem. Wait about 2 minutes and then plug the router back in.

Plug the ethernet net cord into the arris ethernet port. plug the other end into the router where it says "internet"

Plug a ethernet cable from one of the router ports to the computer.

First start up the arris modem, then power up the router, then start the computer.

Belkin n wirelss router setup

To setup the router you will need to log in to your router's control panel. This certainly won't be as simple as on the installer disc, yet it is still do-able. You might also want to contact Belkin's free technical support hot line. They can help you set it up with the method I described above.

My laptop has vista installed via usb from virgin cable modem.what must i do to install a belkin wireless g mimo router using ethernet connection?

Huh? You installed Vista through your Virgin Cable Modem? What on earth does that mean?

Are you trying to ask "How do I install my Belkin Wireless G Router?"

If that is the actual question, here is the answer:

1) Unplug your cable modem from your computer.
2) Plug the cable modem into the router using a Ethernet Cable.
3) Plug the router into the computer using another Ethernet Cable.
4) Plug in the power supply for the cable modem and then the router.

(If your cable modem is ONLY USB, and doesn't have a spot to plug in a Ethernet Cable, you'll have to call Virgin and replace the modem with a model that does)

Once everything is up and running, you should be on the internet as soon as the computer starts.

(You may want to log into the router and disable the "Wireless" settings if you aren't using them to stop others from gaining entry to your network)
