Hi Marko, the issue has been sorted fully by a fairly simple update to the firmware. There is a complete solution available from the address below. I spent ages messing around trying to find the correct fix for the firmware. I came across the solution below and found it 100% effective for the machines I have used it on.
The high pitched whine and the paper stopping just before the fuser (the hot) unit is a known issue on the C3000 and C4100. If you are still searching for the solution to this issue, let me know, as I now have a working fix for the problem.

This is a known issue on certain AcuLaser C4100 for which Epson have released a countermeasure. The problem is related to a value in the printer firmware and only realy affects the machine when it is first switched on or has sat idle for a long time whilst powered on.
The fix requires a software tool to interogate the firmware and check a value. If this value is set to a certain figure it requires changing. The same software can change the value to rectify the issue.
