Hi we have a white westinghouse cooker that runs on propane
and we cant get the oven to light, the filament will glow but it will just not ignite can you help
Go on line to westing house.com and look up your model, go to the help page and ask for their assistance, gas is not something to fool around with, I suspect it is the orifice that have not been converted to propane, I had a similar problenm with the stove top burners, and the orifices needed to be changed to (converted ) to run on propane gas. Some times manufactures send the converter orfices but most of the time you have to ask for them if you are running on propane, most stoves are set up for natural gas not propane. Most of the time the store clerks don't ask you if you will be running on propane , you have to tell them and the professional who installs the unit needs to install the orifices. Please be careful! If you installed the stove your self, you need to contact a professional installer to correctly adjust these .

The igniter will glow orange while the oven is on. This is NORMAL. If it went out the burner would not come back on when the thermostat calls for heat .
If it has a pilot light: a little gas comes out all the time on these. Just use a lighter. Warning for propane model have plenty of ventilation before attempting to light it. Propane is twice as heavy as air and nat gas is lighter than air. propane puddles and lingers while nat gas dissipates. If yours has a glow bar no need to light it:
When I turn on my westinghouse gas oven (GOL476), it appears to ignite immediately but after 3 or 4 minutes there is a strong gas smell which lasts for sometime before it gradually disappears.
I assume you are saying the oven will not light but you can see the igniter glowing....if this is the case you will still need to replace the igniter, igniters need to be drawing a certain amperage before the will open the gas safety valve. in this case your igniter is glowing unevenly orange and is old - it is not pulling enough amps to open the valve. Replace it and you should be good to go If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Good Luck!!! Mike
Sounds like gas valve is bad and the thermostat also. I would change the gas valve first. But when you said oven would not lite sure sign the gas valve is bad. New gas valve is about 50ish t-stat could be another 20. I would almost just get another gas stove at a used appliance store for 125 or something like that if unit is very old.
Does the cooktop burners work? if they do then the problem is either the safety valve or the glow plug (even though it glows). Try tapping the safety valve. If the oven lights up change the glow plug.Otherwise change the safety valve
try this, when you see the ignitor glow use a match and try to light the burner itself BE CAREFUL!! if the burner lights the problem is its clogged or low gas pressure.remove the burner and use brake cleaner to clean the burner AND pilot.if your using propane youll have to do this occasionally.let me know.
thanks very much for your help i will follow this up
