How to record sounds using external mic on acer aspire 4315???

the issue is that the mic is built in and it has a poor quality ..It was meant to be used for instant messaging calls ..so if you have to make quality recordings use an external one ..either on usb or just plug one in the pink jack ..
you can also go to sound settings in control panel and try to adjust it ..turn on advanced and select to boost it up ..but low the volume to avoid oscillations ..

In your start menu, all programs you can go to accessories and select entertainment. there is a sound recorder program in there. by default you will record from the mic next to the cam.

here is the problem. Those mics are pretty direct dimensional and will not pick up soudn more than a few feet from them. You will be better off getting an external mic and adjusting its volume over trying to use the builtin one

Go to control panel and sound devices and unmute the mic under record options. To avoid feed back use headphones or mute the mic in the play back option. Audacity is a good open source application to use to record on your PC.

You need to check the record settings and make sure the mic is not muted or turned down to low. Click START, CONTROL PANEL, then SOUND icon. Click the AUDIO tab up top. Make sure that your sound card is selected in the drop down menu under Sound Recording. Now click VOLUME tab. A new window will open up. Click OPTIONS then PROPERTIES. Make sure you have a check by the MIC and click OK. In the Recording Control window, turn the level up for Microphone and make sure it is not muted. Let me know what happens.

Be sure to find up-to-date drivers for your mic. What kind is it? That is most likely your problem. Either that, or you installed something that is conflicting with it.

In the sounds control panel, right click in the area which should show recording devices. Select 'show disabled devices' and bingo!

You did great troubleshooting for your laptop. If the sound is fine and good for the headset, your sound card is probably not the problem. The driver aspect, should not be the problem either if it works with your headset. So herein lies the dilemma...the problem is most likely due to some physical componenent between the built-in mike and the computer case itself. You should take it to a laptop repair shop and see what they can do. It has nothing to do with the software or the sound card. It is the physical component of the built-in mike and speakers. Get that checked out and you should be good to go!

This solution works for the Windows XP version. Go to msconfig.exe, then the Startup tab. UNCHECK rthdcpl and restart. Realtek driver doesn't load, but who cares...the microphone works now.
