I am trying hook a belkin N wireless router up to a speedstream 4200 dsl modem and it will not connect to the internet. i have switched the wires around and tried setting up with different wire configurations and it still won't connect to the internet with the wireless router hooked up but does just fine when i'm just using the speedstream modem, can you please tell me why i can't get this to work, and what needs to be done to hook the wireless router up correctly. e-mail add. From the telephone outlet the dsl line (telephone line) connects to the dsl jack of the Speedstrem 4200 DSL Modem.
From the modems open port you connect one Cat5 network cable into the port (in back) of the Belkin N Wireless router.
For wireless internet connection to begin you must also do a wireless set-up on the software side of the Belkin router or through their web interface.
This may actually be an issue with your ISP. There is a good possiblity that your ISP has bound your connection to the MAC address of the network card on your computer. This is a common occurance which is why router manufacturers give you the option of having your router clone your computer's MAC address. Go into your router's management an perform the clone, sorry I cannot give you more details but I don't know the specific model of your Belkin router.
hi,
This issue usally occurs when the router is able to save the data stored or in other words the Router id not able to AUTHENTICATE, but as you already got a new router and you have already done the fireware upgradation of the router. we can also upgrade the firmware of your speedstream modem.
plz do these following steps ,( plz disconect the router from the computer and modem completly while doing the steps )
The Efficient 5260 modems that can be upgraded are as follows:
Look on the label on the bottom of your modem. It should read:
SpeedStream 5260 Ethernet ADSL Modem
Part Number: 060-5660-00x (where x=any number)
Revision: any (all revisions seem to work)
If your part number reads anything else, your modem is most likely not upgradable.
For those curious, 5660 models 003 and earlier do NOT support G.Lite ADSL, only DMT. If you are buying a 5260 or 5660 model secondhand, and your DSL ISP uses G.Lite DSL, it would be a good idea to check with the person selling you the DSL modem.
UPDATE: As of 5660 Firmware v2.3.0(2) and later all 5660 including 5260/5660 hybrids support G.Lite ADSL. It pays to use the latest Firmware.
PLZ REPLY IF THIS HELPS, I WILL TRY TO FIND OUT THE RESOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE
REGARDS.

I have the same problem with my linksys router, not only do you have to clone the mac address, they told me you have to switch it to full bridge, which there is no option for in the speedsteam management page so who knows?
