There is a single USB transciever for both the mouse and keyboard. The mouse still lights up when you turn it on. The mouse has an on/off switch and a "connect" button and runs on 2 AA's. The keyboard has none of the on/off or connect buttons but it also runs on 2 AA's. If any good comes out of this, it would be that the printing on the keyboard "keys" should be manufactured with a more durable ink or protective coating, and the instruction manual which is very minimal should have some reccomendations on how to possibly fix the mouse if you know the "transciever" is working because the keyboard still works. For anyone who considers buying this combo set, the bottom of both the keyboard and mouse are labeled "98552" "Rev.K1". So its possible that later revisions have these issues fixed.

SOURCE: keyboard not responding

Solution. My wireles keyboard stopped working except for the F-Lock key, the Media key and the sleep key. It wasn't batteries, even though I tried, communication was there because the above keys were working. Remove the batteries from your keyboard and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Press the red connect button a few times and other various keys every few minutes during that time. This may be the whole "capacitor discharge" trick, but I tired that with someone elses instructions and my keyboard did not work after 2 minutes of key pressing. I think it just needed more time to clear out the secure settings. Good luck, I was about to trash this keyboard until I tried again

SOURCE: Replaced Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 doesn't work

I would have suggested opening up your old mouse and cleaning the right click button first.

Generally, wireless devices have a connect button that finds the frequencies of the devices. On the receiver press this button, then press the button on the bottom of your new mouse. the receivers lights will stop flashing once connected.

Assuming the batteries in the mouse and keyboard are fully charged, next make sure all your cables are inserted correctly.

Check that the data cables leading from the base unit to the computer are securely inserted into the proper connectors at the rear of the case.

Next make sure the power cord for the base unit is plugged into a live power outlet and that the other end is securely plugged into the back of the base unit. Often times this plug will come out halfway and so will look plugged in but will cause intermittent problems.

Next make sure your mouse is not too far away from the base unit when you try to use it. Normally 8 or 10 feet is the maximum distance these units will function properly at. Also make sure there are no obstructions between the mouse and the base unit. You can also clean any dust or debris from the small LED bulb on the underside of the mouse with a dry QTip to ensure that is not the problem.

Now depress the CONNECT button on the base unit, then while the light is flashing depress the small CONNECT button on the bottom of the mouse.

Now try using the mouse.

If the unit still does not function after that, then leave them plugged in and RESTART your computer.

Repeat the CONNECT procedure for the mouse after your computer restarts if necessary.

You may have to do the connect procedure 3 or 4 times before it connects properly so just keep trying the connect process until it works. Make sure you have the mouse right right beside the receiver when you do the connect procedure. Also make sure you use a mouse pad under the mouse, some surfaces do not work well with certain mice. Also make sure there are no other wireless mice in the same room when you do this. Also make sure you don't have a regular mouse plugged into the computer at the same time. Try switching the receiver to a different USB port on your computer just in case the one you are currently using is faulty.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Joe.
