Hi,
your lasers Dirty or damaged.
These usually last about 14-18 months sometimes longer, depending on amount of use. ( operating hours ) your best solution, is to try blowing into the UMD Drive, may be lucky and remove a speck of dust. Or you,ll need a UMD Replacement.
Best-cheapest place is e-bay.
You,ll also get fitting instructions. Alternatively is to take it to a repair shop. But don,t expect much change out of £75.00.

SOURCE: PSP can't read UMD

My sons had this happen to him this morning... we tried to reset and hard reset... nothing worked... after seeing a bunch of postings about the laser, I used a pen to move move the laser with the unit off... I just pushed it sideways and slid it out of position a bit... anyway, it worked... it's almost like the laser was just stuck...

SOURCE: psp will not read UMD disc

if its broke, theres nothing you can really do. but if you still want to play games on it, install custom firmware, and download games from the internet, or use another psp to copy them. to get custom firmware on psp, go here and follow instructions: http://pspcustomfirmware.com/ and to download games, i advise torrents,go to thepiratebay.org and download using utorrent(google it). the process is easy, just follow the instructions.

Ello. My PSP won't read UMDs. The loading

Most likely the laser is weak. It has been awhile since I have changed a laser in a psp. But first off you should clean the laser with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol and dry it with the other end of the q-tip. It doesn't take much for them to not be able to read a disc. If it still doesn't work you will need to replace the laser if you aren't that great at working on electronics or very small things you need to find someone to do it for you.

Hi. Since you're in UMD Autoload mode, you need to configure that in the PSP Settings. To do this, turn off your PSP and remove your UMD. Now, turn it back on and it won't autoload your UMD since it wasn't there anymore.
Now, go to "Settings" and scroll down to "System Settings" and press X. Scroll down again the selection until you see "UMD Auto-Start" and press X. At the right side will appear the options "ON" and "OFF". Select "OFF" and press O button several times to go back to main screen.
Insert your UMD. Now, try playing games from Memory Stick. You may have to turn off your PSP and turn it on again to finally play homebrew...
I hope this helps...

PSP can't read UMD movies

check first that you are using version 3.71 which i image you are if you bought in asia ( main menu system information)
regardles of wheter you are on this version or not i'm damm sure is not a sony release of the firmware you bough in asia :-)

shut down PSP hold power button 4 - 10 seconds or until light goes out.

restart PSP holding down R button to access recovery mode.
go to configuration,
check fake regioon currently disabled. and free umd region currently dissabled ( use x button to enter sub menus and toggle possible options)

PSP region code

Yes, US movies are region 1 and China and Southeast Asian markets are region 3. This is supposedly to keep piracy low but considering you can't even burn UMDs yet that's kind of ridiculous. Go to http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/24/neuros-pumps-up-neuros-mpeg-4-recorder-2-for-psps-and-ipods/
to find a mpeg4 converter for UMDs or else you could get a new region 1 drive and flashing your bios. There's talk in the air about Sony releasing it's movies all regions from here on out due to this problem.

Psp

Could be as simple as you put the UMD with wrong direction.

The UMD games are universal, which mean any game can be played on any psp. But the UMD movies are region specific, you can only play UMD movie with the region set according to your psp.
