I was on the internet when a thing came up that windows needed permission for I believe the adobe player. I click to continue. Then suddenly a blue screen popped up saying something about Microsoft detected a problem & was shutting my computer down. Didn't get to read whole message & now I have a blank screen with a curser blinking on top left side of screen.
Lots of cause, here. (huge list)
if you dont have data to save
power on hit F11 key, HP recovery.
if that fails.
ill not worry bsod, only dead , worry... first.
when you power on do you get text on the screen every boot.
it must, does it?
if not you lost power, PSU bad?
do the fans run, 1,2 or even 3 fans, they must. do they?
does the DVD drive eject?
when on does the monitor (unstated) menu key work, it must
if not the monitor is bad, test monitor on any other pc.
if the monitor showed NO SIG< tell that.
and if not the menu key on said monitor must work PC on mon , on.
Try rebooting to see if that clears up the issue. Should. Does not mean it will not happen again if you repeat the operation that caused the BSOD. There is an issue with your OS and you might want to attempt a repair operation if possible

You will need to install Windows XP SP2, then use Nlite to install the SATA driver, which you can find at that link. Hope that works!

Hold the power button down and let it fully power off then boot it back up. If you get a prompt saying Windows did not shut down normally, select Last Known Good Configuration.

Did you do this below?
This is called the BSOD (blue screen of Death) this usually occurs if you have recently installed either a new piece of hardware with a driver that has conflicted with Windows.
1. Unplug all you USB peripherals while the PC is shutdown
2. Press F8 while the PC is booting up its difficult to know when to do it so I usually press it twice with 5 seconds between presses.
3. Select last known good configuration and see if your PC will start this might be all that it needs.
If this fails unless you have a boot CD that allows you to recover the DOS or on some laptops like Evesham they have PC angel installed I am not sure if the Compaq Presario has this but you can use Hirens Boot CD or some other to try and restore the files,
I am sure that the CAB files that are required will still be on the laptop unless someone has removed then to save space.you may have to take it back to factory defaults, you will loose all installs and documents though its a bit drastic but it should get you back up and running.
Hope this helps please rate my post if it helps you.
