What does a belt life ends soon mean, on a brother MFC 9440ch color laser printer?

Are you sure of the error message? The Brother printers that I have used have Drum Ends Soon and Change Belt messages.

The Brother MFC-9440CN has a belt that can be replaced. The Belt unit has an life expectancy of ~50000 pages. The belt unit is part BU100CL and costs a bit over $150 at office supply stores. Amazon.com and some other stores have the unit for under $100. http://www.amazon.com/Brother-BU-100CL-HL-4040CN-HL-4070CDW-Series/dp/B000SC245E is one source.

When the unit says Change Belt Unit, follow the directions from the manual's maintenance section to replace the belt unit. See page 178 (page 189 of the PDF) http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doc002252/mfc9440_usa_usr_b.pdf . You have to remove the Drum and then the Belt Unit. Then slide in the new Belt Unit and replace the Drum unit. Then close the printer and turn it on. Finally reset the counter from the Machine Info sub menu (press Menu 8 4 and select the Belt Unit and press OK. Then press 1 followed by Stop/Exit).

If you mean the Drum Unit, that is part DR-110CL and costs over $175 at the office supply stores. Order this part when the Drum End Soon message appears and replace it if the print quality deteriorates (or when you have the new drum). The Drum Life is ~17000 pages. The steps start on page 166 (182 of the PDF). You need to remove the old Drum unit. Then remove the toner cartridges from the drum. Prepare the new Drum Unit, including putting the cartridges in the new Drum. Then replace the Drum unit and reset the counter.

I hope this helps.

The inside drum quit turning. is there a belt that turns this and if so how do I get to it. I had the top open but could not see anything. The drum spins if I manually spin it so I know it is not bound up...

if you cant see a belt about 1/4" wide around the drum, there will be a mark where the belt was on the drum before it broke, remove front panel and restring belt around the drum, then replace front drum piece that holds the drum in place and then string belt around idler and motor pulleys and replace front cover

How do a replace the belt on the drum of my indesit washer dryer

REMOVE THE SOCKET FROM THE WALL OUTLET.
To replace a belt that passes over the drum on a dryer you need to be able to pass the new belt over either the back or the front of the drum. This entails removing the front panel to clear the whole drum or loosening off the rear bearing support to pass the belt under it so that the belt can be passed over the drum. From there it is just a case of passing the belt over the motor pulley and replacing all the parts. Select which will be easier on your machine. After replacing everything but the top panel, make sure that the belt is correctly installed by turning the drum several revolutions by hand and ensuring that the belt is running true and still on the motor pulley. Replace the top cover and you are set to go.

I have a kenmore 27 inch electric dryer that when you push the start button it sounds like it starts but the drum doesn't turn. What could this be?

A clear indication that your dryer belt is broken is when the dryer drive motor runs but the drum does not rotate. A new belt is relatively inexpensive from several online or a local parts vendor, but installing it can be a bit frustrating since the dryer drum usually needs to be remove to install a replacement belt. Access to the interior of the dryer is usually necessary. For Maytag (and some Kenmore) models, the front of the dryer can be easily removed (two screws below front contour) by pulling out on the bottom of the panel and rotating up to release the top clips. Once off, place to the side, then remove four machine screws from the front drum/lint filter assembly, then remove by pullling out. Once off, place aside. Remove drum by lifting up and pulling out on drum (since the belt is broken it will not provide any resistance). Once removed, inspect the motor pulley arrangement noting the belt routing path around the motor pulley, belt tensioner, and the drum. Inspect the drum for belt wear marks, noting approximate location on drum where belt rides. Install replacement belt by routing through pulley arrangement (ridged side of belt rides againt motor pulley), then "hang" the belt on the interior backside to enable reaching the belt after reinstalling the drum. After placing the drum edge on the rear rollers, lift the front of the drum up into position, working the belt around the drum into the drum groove. Once the belt is in the groove, the drum should stay in position without lifting from the front. Check for proper pulley routing, taking care to avoid routing the belt OVER the tensioner belt keeper, i.e., route the the belt under the belt keeper to avoid belt riding on the keeper and failing prematurely. Install the front/lint filter assembly. As you manually rotate the drum, reach along the top and side of the drum and gently pull the belt out of the groove and into its normal ride position. Install the front panel, plug the unit in, start and check for proper rotation of the drum.

We are trying to replace the belt to our front loader dryer DLE5977W and are not sure how to take the dryer apart. Do we start from the front or the back. What steps do we need to replace the belt. Thank...

If it is a front loading machine:
You would remove the front of the machine, that will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and that will expose the drum rollers, motor, idler arm pulley.
Before you replace the drum and belt assembly, Check you drum rollers for flat spots, If they have flat spots on them replace them. I would also recommend that you lubricate your drum rollers with a good quality of machine oil such as 3 in One Oil. This will save you later on another disassembly because of noisy drum rollers.Apply the oil at the shaft of the drum rollers.
I hope this helps

Asko T720 clothes dryer - thumping noise like the drum is damaged and shakes when going.

hi
The drum of the dryer is usually turned by a motor-and-belt assembly. There are two very clear signs that the belt is malfunctioning: You can easily spin the drum by hand when the dryer is off, or you hear a heavy thumping sound coming from the drum when the dryer is running. Here's how to test and replace the drum belt:

Step 1: Locate the belt by removing the back or front service panel. Depending on the type of dryer you own, you may have to prop up the drum to keep it from sagging. Don't let the drum hang; the bolts that hold it in the cabinet could be damaged. Don't remove any more parts than necessary.

Step 2: Identify the belt. The old belt may be threaded around the idler pulley and motor drive shaft. Draw a diagram showing how the pulley is installed so you'll be able to replace it properly. If the old belt is worn or frayed, but not broken, leave it around the drum as a pattern for positioning the new belt; cut the old belt and remove it when the new belt is in position.

Step 3: Remove the old belt from the pulleys and stretch the replacement belt into place. The new belt must extend around the dryer drum and the pulleys. The trick is to align the belt on the drum with the pulleys -- the ribs on the new belt go against the drum.

Step 4: Once the belt is aligned, turn the drum by hand, if possible, to make sure the belt is tracking. You may have to reassemble part of the cabinet to do this.
