Hi, please help in resolving the issue. I have a HCL Beanstalk desktop. It doesn't power on intermittent. When it gets powered on, it works fine.
If a desk top unit and you have to try to turn it on several times to get it going I would suspect bad filter caps in the power supply---once on they will function--usually happens in units at least a few years old.
The power supply if removable can be tested or at least inspected for this as caps will be easy to see if bad----

SOURCE: Acer Aspire L100 will not power up
It's most likely not the power supply. I have a customer with the same problem. I used a power meter to see if the power supply worked and it checked out perfect. (You should still test it though, just in case.)
The only thing I can figure is a bad motherboard. Unfortunately, there's no visual signs of overheating, arc burns, or the like on this one to make it obvious... just one capacitor (the small one nearest to the power port) that has a slight bulge.
These things don't seem to be build to last, from what I've been reading.
Options:
-Break it down, sell the parts that are likely to still be good (wireless minipci card, memory, processor, heck - maybe even the front ports if you get longer cables/extensions), and maybe make around $200 that can be invested in a reliable machine.
-Or drop money into replacement parts. (but after what dj said about a second mobo going bad, I don't think it's worth investing more in this)
SOURCE: intermittent startup problem. power light goes
The Yellow light would be for standby mode, Blue would be running. Sounds like the power supply is going bad, and when you took it to Best Buy the power was off long enough for it to not give you problems.
I would take it back to them as one of these times it will do what you are talking about and they will have to fix the problem. Do not let them get around fixing it under warranty.
The power supply can be a once in a while problem at first and progressively get worse.

You may inserted the power supply to the CPU wrong or the motherboard is not functioning properly.

It powers on intermittent. On, then Off. 1) Check to see if the computer is dirty inside. (Power unplugged, Anti-Static Precautions followed) 2) Remove the Ram Memory modules, clean the gold plated contact pins with a pencil eraser. Still the same? Power Supply problem. Also Carefully check the Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors on the motherboard,http://capacitorlab.com/visible-failures...
