Wireless switch when logged on wireless switch canot be switched off and on again(wireless wont turn on).have to log off,set switch to on for it to work.

I HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM, EXCEPT IT WON'T EVEN TURN ON AT ALL. I JUST GOT DSL CONNECTION AND I CANNOT USE IT WIRELESS - ONLY WITH THE DSL CABLE.
THE WIRELSS LAN WIZARD KEEPS TELLING ME TO TURN BUTTON ON, BUT IT WON'T TURN ON.
IT ALSO SAYS: UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHICH APPLICATION ENABLES WIRELESS LAN. PLEASE ENABLE WIRELESS LAN BEFORE PROCEEDING.
SO IF IT CANNOT DETERMINE THAT, HOW CAN I DETERMINE IT. IT IS OF NO HELP AT ALL!

I don't have this lappy, however, most newer BIOS settings show an option for a term such as "wireless state" or "Radio status" with options such as on, off, last state. The setting of "last state" should supercede any upgrades or conflicts downloaded after initial settings. Set the BIOS setting to last state and then switch it on. All subsequent boots should have wireless on. To get into BIOS settings, either F2, Delete, Spacebar, or Enter should be pressed during boot sequence. Good luck.

I am using my d-link dir 300 router for 14mons. And suddenly it could not connect to the internet anymore or simply no wi-fi. How can I fix my router?

Assuming its not dead, ie there's some flashing lights somewhere.

First switch it off, leave if for a couple of minutes, then switch it on again.

If you've already had a go at that, then try resetting the unit.

First, resetting sets the unit back to factory default, so you need all you set up details and passwords ready.

It may be worth connecting by cable to the back of the router, logging into it and saving the setup as a file on you pc.

While the router is still switched on, at the back of the router, there's a small recessed button, you'll need a biro or something similar, press and hold the button in for about 15 seconds. Once done, you should be able to gain wireless access, but you will need to reset all the passwords and link details.

If you were able to save that setu file, you should now be able to download it back to the router.

This in turn will break contact again, but your wireless network setting on you pc should log you back in again.

The wifi dot wont light up

Hi

Thank you for your query

You will have to ensure your sirelss is switched on

You can check this by logging into your modem router (you can find out how to do this from the manual) and thne scrolling to the wireless part, ensure wireless is switched to on

If it is already set to on, then please switch off the modem for approx 10 minutes (i.e from the wall socket as well) and then power up

I f however after trying all these things it is still not working then unfortunaltey you will have a hardware fault and the router will need to be replaced/repaired

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial as

this will help me greatly - Thank you again

Wireless switch is amber

Your computer is not detecting the wireless network, that's all. Leave it in an enabled state (even thought it's amber), and try a shutdown and restart.
If not, force it to search for wireless networks. It should detect.
By logging off the internet, what do you mean? Shutting your browser, disabling the wireless device under network connections, switching off the radio on the switch on your computer, or something else?

My laptop won't shut down properly!

Is it possible that you have changed the settings of what buttons do what on your system? E.g. you could have changed the power button to "switch user" instead of "shut down", to check this (in XP) go to "Power Options" (in Control Panel" and then click on the "Advanced tab" at the top, then select "Shut down" from the drop down menu at the bottom of the window.

If this is already set to shut down then maybe you could do a system restore in case another setting has been changed, restore it to before the PC started doing this.

Alternatively try actually choosing "Turn off Computer" from the Log On screen (press Ctrl + L to get to this screen, or choose switch user/log off). If you are using Vista I beleive that there is a shut-down option from the Log In Page there (which again you can access by pressing Ctrl + L on the keyboard.

Hope this helps!

Losing wireless connection after logging off

Log off? Not turn off?
Does the wireless work after you reboot?
If you log off but keep the computer powered it may be a power management issue.
Some network adapters have a setting to allow windows to turn them off to save power.
Go to the Device Manager, right click on the wireless adapter and select Properties.
Is there a Power Management tab? If so, click on it and remove the check mark from "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
