Geneva Watches with Two or Three Hands and a Date Window

Geneva Chronograph Watches

1. Pull the crown out two clicks. This second click position allows you to set the time.
2. Turn the crown clockwise until you have the correct time, then push the crown in to set it.
3. Pull the crown out just one click to set the date. Turn the crown clockwise until you have the correct date, then push the crown in to set it.
4. Stop and start the chronograph by pressing the PA button, located above the crown.
5. Reset the chronograph by pressing the PB button just below the crown. The PB button returns the chronograph second and minute hands to their original positions of zero.

Automatic Geneva Watches

1. Wind the mainspring by turning the crown 15 to 20 times clockwise.
2. Pull the crown out until it clicks.
3. Turn the crown counterclockwise until you have the correct time, then push the crown in to set the time.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not set the date or time between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m. to avoid damage to your Geneva watch. The gears sit too close together during these times.
• If your Geneva watch becomes wet, wipe it dry as soon as possible. Keep your watch away from saunas and hot tubs, as the extreme heat diminishes the watch's water resistance.

I presume you're referring to a chronometer watch?

You need to twist the crown (little screw on the right side of the piece) counter clockwise until it slightly pops out. This is position 1. You need to pull the crown outward gently until you feel a lug sensation. This is position 2. Turn the crown to adjust the 'date' until you reach yesterday's date (one date before what you actually want). Then pull the crown outward again feeling that lug sensation. This is position 3. Turn the crown so the minute-hand swings in the normal movement of time (don't swing it backwards). Keep doing this until the 'date' turns to the current date. Now your piece is set on the correct date and the minute-hand is in the "a.m." Now keep turning the crown until you've reach the current time (noting the am/pm period you want). Push the crown inward to Position 2, then to Position 1. Turn the crown while in Position 1 to wind the spring. How many times depends on your brand, mine is 35-40 turns. Once I am done, push in the crown and turn simultaneously to lock it down. It will stop when it is seated properly.

After you unscrew the crown it is already in winding position. If you pull the crown, it will go to the date setting position. Further pull of crown will set it in time setting position. Try to pull the crown till you get it in correct date setting position and change the desired date. Do not use the date setting between 10pm - 2am, as this can damage date mechanism. The best way is to pull out crown to the time setting position and set the time to 6.30(anytime) and then push the crown in to date setting position and change the date to the previous day's date. Then again pull the crown out to the time setting position and advance hands forwards (clock wise) till hands pass 12.00 (midnight) and the date changes automatically to the desired one, then adjust the time, push the crown fully in and screw the crown on.

There are two crown positions on this timepiece. The furthest out, or second position, sets the analog time hands. The first crown position in one direction sets the day, and in the other sets the date. To access the first crown position, pull the crown out very slowly until you feel a "click" or pull the crown out all the way and push it in slowly until you feel a "click" with your fingers.

To set the watch:

1) Pull the crown to the second position and bring the hour and minute hand to the 12:00 position, if it switches the day and date after moving past, you are then in AM time.

2) Set the time appropriately to AM/PM. Use http://www.time.gov/ for the most accurate time.

3) Put the crown in the first click position. Set the Date and Day appropriately, having determined the AM/PM time setting. This will ensure that the day/date change at 12:00 midnight instead of 12:00 noon.

NOTE: NEVER EVER set the date between 7pm and 2am or you will damage the watch!! The crown is screwed down to make it waterproof. Start by unscrewing the crown by turning it counter-clockwise until it pops out slightly. That is position '1' which is used for winding. Pull it out two more clicks to position '3' and set the time by turning the crown clockwise. Turn it past midnight at which point you will see the date change and continue turning till you get to the right time. If you're setting the time to a point after noon, be sure to go all the way past 12 noon before setting the time or the date will change at noon instead of midnight. If the time is before 7pm push the crown in to position '2' and turn it to set the date. When you are finished push the crown all the way in and turn it clockwise to screw it down.

A. SETTING THE TIME
1. Pull the crown out to position “3” (See diagram). If the crown has
a “screw-down” lock, then unscrew the crown lock first by turning
the crown toward you, then pull it to position “3”. Do not forget to
screw the crown back “IN” after all setting is completed.
2. Turn the crown towards you (hands moves clockwise) until the
date changes at approximately midnight.
3. Continue turning the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
If it is afternoon you must go past 12 o’clock again (noon) to set
the correct time.
4. When the correct time is set,push crown back to position “1”.
B. SETTING THE DATE
1. Pull crown to position “2”(See proceeding diagram).The watch
will continue to run.
2. Turn the crown away from you until the correct date appears.
3. Once the date is set, push the crown back to position “1”.
Note: Do NOT set the date between the hours of 8:00 PM and
3:00 AM.This would not damage the watch,but the date may need
to be reset later.
C. CHRONOGRAPH (CHRONO) ADJUSTMENT
If the chrongraph second hand is not positioned at the proper
starting position (12 o’clock or “zero” position), use the below
procedure.It does not need to be repeated unless the watch
receives an impact sufficient to move the hand out of position, or
the Battery has been changed.
1. Pull crown out to position “3”.
2. Push button “A” to move the Chrono Second hand (long hand) to
the “0” or 12 o’clock position. Each button push will move the
hand one step – BUT holding the button down will advance the
hand rapidly.
3. Push crown back to position “1”.
D. USING THE CHRONOGRAPH (CHRONO)
Note: The maximum chrono reading is 60 minutes, However the
chrono will continue running once 60 minutes has passed. The
resulting one hour periods may be added together mentally to keep
track of longer periods.
For example – If you know that approximately one hour has
passed since you started the chronograph, and the chrono reads
25 minutes, then you know that the chrono has been running 60
minutes plus 25 minutes, which is one hour and 25 minutes.
1. Push Button “A” to start the chronograph. Push button “A” again
to stop the chronograph.
2. Push button “B” to return the two chronograph hands to the
“Zero” or starting point.
3. The Chronograph can be stopped and started again
(Button “A”), repeatedly, to “ADD” times together.

Unscrew the crown pull out the crown to the first position, One click and rotate the crown clockwise. This is for Quick Set models

For non quickset

Depending on how old the watch is, It may be quick set or older models are not quick set. In older models you need to unscrew the crown, pull out the crown and rotate the crown to set the time, and in order to set the date rotate the hour hand past 12 twice in order for the date to change. Set the date first and then set the hour and min. For quick set models unscrew the crown and pull it out to the fist click this position you can "quickly" set the date by rotating the crown. Set the date and then pull out the crown to the second position out. Rotate the crown to set the hour and min. Then push the crown back in and screw it down.

The crown is probably a screw down style. The screw down stem is designed to keep the water out and should be screwed shut when not adjusting the watch. Look at the watch stem from the side, look from the 3 oclock to the 9 oclock, you should see the end of the stem. Now turn the stem counterclockwise. After a number of turns, the stem should pop out a bit, it is now ready to set. Most waterproof automatic day/date watches have 4 positions for the stem:

1: screwed down (locked)
2: unscrewed position A
3: unscrewed position B (stem pulled out to first "click")
4: unscrewed position C (stem pulled out all the way.)

Position A:
This is usually used to wind the watch, although some automatic watches cannot be wound by the stem.

Position B:
Used to set day/date. Turning the stem one direction will advance the day and turning it the other direction will advance the date.

Position C:
Used to set the time. Some watches will "hack," a term used to describe the ability to stop the second hand for accuracy purposes.

Be sure the watch is at least a little bit wound before starting theis procedure or it will not run when you get it set!


Unscrew the stem and pull it all the way out to position C. Now turn the stem to advance the time clockwise. Continue turning until the day/date advances, now you know you are in the AM 12 hrs of the day. It is important not to advance the day/date with the stem during the 3 hours before and the 3 hours after midnight, so go ahead and move the time to 8 am.

Now push the stem in sligthly until you are in position B. Sometimes it is easier to go to position A, the out to position B. Once in position B, advance the day/date until it is set for the current day/date.

Pull the stem out to position C. Adjust the time to one minute past the current time. Watch your reference timepiece until it matches your watch and push the stem in when they match.

Your watch is now set! Screw the crown down and wear it in good health.


Hacking. If you stop the second hand at 0 seconds, and wait for your reference timepiece to reach 0 seconds also, you can set the watch to within a second accuracy.

Movement slop. If you advance the time past the time you wish to set your watch and then "backup" to your chosen time, you will remove the slop from the geartrain and make your watch set more accuretly
