SOURCE: whirlpool top load washer does not spin. Does

Hi, the likely problem here is a bad coupling. Here are the directions for a bad coupling. Kenmore's, Whirlpool's and Ropers are direct drive machines this means they don't have a belt. Instead the transmission is connected directly to the motor via a coupling. This is what a coupling looks like:
8fbd130.jpg To confirm this pull the machine forward enough that you can lean it back and it will stand back under it's own weight. Wedge something underneath the chassis so it does not fall on you while your accessing the bottom. Go under the Machine and locate the motor, You will see the pump connected to the motor connected to the transmission. 1. Unplug the wire harness from the motor then. 2. Use a screw driver remove the 2 clips holding the pump in place and remove or push the pump out of the way. 3. You will need to remove the 2 screws from the brackets holding the Motor in place with a nut driver. 4. With a screwdriver remove the 2 clips holding the motor in place (be careful to support the motor as the clips comes off) 5. remove the motor and drop it onto the floor. Now you will see the coupling..one side on the motor the other side on the transmission the rubber connector in between. Replace the coupling if broken or worn and reassemble the washer in reverse order. Now you should be all set. Be aware you may smell rubber on the first couple loads this is normal after replacing a coupling.
If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Mike

Testimonial: "Mike was right on. I followed his easy step by step instructions and found the broken coupler. Replaced the coupler and everything works great."

SOURCE: Kenmore washer 90 series continue

Sounds like the fill switch needs to be replaced. A good way to test it is to set your machine on low fill and see if it fills past 3/4. If it does, it's the fill switch.

SOURCE: The washer fills agitate but won't spin & drain

Possible fault with the program controller unit. You need to check the program cycle outputs using a multimeter connected to measure the output voltage. On start the inlet should open and then close as the water level sensors works and then proceed to wash. So this much seems OK. Now in the next step the drain valve must open to drain off, then fill once again with the inlet working and water level being sensed. If there is no output in this section cycle then the prrogram controller has errors within the memory . You can remove the panel and reset all connectors and connections.

The motor may be shot if it is getting current and won't operate the washer.

My roper top load washer model rtw4440vq fills with water but wont wash, spin or drain

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and
Drive Belt If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.

Drive Motor If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.

Stator Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

Whirlpool top load washer won't advance through cycles

A small motor that rotates the timer has gone bad. Common practice is to replace the timer. Usually a mechanical timer of this type is less expensive than a computerized timer.

Washer won't do spin cycle....and won't start any cycle

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the washer fills but does not agitate or spin then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.
