You can also lower a powerful small magnet connected to a string, and it may likely pick up the bb, which is made of steel.

SOURCE: sink garbage disposal not working! when I switch

Do you hear a humming sound when you turn it on? If so, you have a clogged disposal. Check on the bottom for the allen wrench location recessed in the middle of the disposal. Insert the proper size allen wrench and you'll be able to rotate the motor back and forth (sometimes difficult at first) and eventually loosen the clog and free up the motor. If you're able to move the shaft/motor easily in the beginning and it still doesn't work you may have a defective disposal. If you want to check more thoroughly you'll need to check to see if you have power at the disposal when you turn on the switch. Use a electrical tester that you can buy at any home improvement store to see if you have power at the disposal. If so, and the motor turns easily when you use your allen wrench, you have a defective disposal and it needs replacement.

If unit has slot, then it's located on very bottom in center.
Or use a broom.

Whirpool built-in puddle of water in bottom, food on drain

see this causes and proceed according. God bless you
Belt, Water Pump Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

Drain Pump If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.

Drain Impeller The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher, through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.

Drain Solenoid Kit If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain solenoid kit might need to be replaced. The drain solenoid is an actuator that opens a flap to allow the water to drain.
Drain Valve The drain valve can get clogged with debris and should be cleaned out if the dishwasher won't drain. If it seems clear of debris but won't actuate, it will need to be replaced. The drain valve is not repairable Pump and Motor Assembly If the dishwasher won't drain, the pump and motor assembly might be defective. If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won't run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug will need to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.

Check Valve If the dishwasher won't drain the check valve might be stuck closed. The check valve is a small plastic device which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

Check Ball If the dishwasher won't drain the check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the ball gets stuck, it will prevent the water from draining also. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

I have a Badger 5xp & a double sink. When I turn the disposal on I get a small eruption of water, air and disposed of debris from the other drain.

Take apart the tubular drain pipes beneath sink and clean out everything.
Take photos before removing pipes so parts go back together easily.
Loosen 2 nuts on trap, and trap falls loose.
Remove 2 bolts/screws and remove tailpiece from side of disposal.
Then run snake down drain line leading away from sink to make sure blockage is removed.

I wrote ez disposal steps that give tips on reconnecting tubular drain pipes:

Just installed a new garbage disposal now my dishwasher will not drain. after contacting a 1-800 number it was said that a plastic plug must be removed from the garbage disposal in order for the dishwasher...

Just use an object like a screwdriver as a chisel and from the outside of the disposer, insert the screwdriver through the tube that the dishwasher drain hose will be connected to. Use a hammer to give in a firm tap to knock it free. Remove the lose part from inside the disposer, connect the dishwasher drain, and you're set.

Dripping garbage disposal. looks to be dripping from aroud joint where there may b a gasket?

Your leak is due to a break in the plumbers putty at that location. It will have to be taken apart so the old putty can be removed and new plumbers putty can be put in.
