Brother HL-2170W Laser Printer is 'offline" wont turn back online

I have tried the obvious things like right clicking the printer icon and property menu, taking out the paper tray, restarting everything, can anyone suggest anything else short of uninstalling and reinstalling the printer. The wireless installation for this printer took hours.

Brand new printer, using Windows Vista. Print settings pages print, but cannot print from the computer to the printer, it just stays out there in the printer queue. It says the printer is off line, I don't know how to get it online.

The Printer HP LaserJet 3390's Status is Offline. How do I get it back Online?

  • joldfield495 Mar 09, 2009

I have the same problem with "offline". I have tried to install several times using all methods. At the very end of installation the printer icon appears green in the toolbar for 1 sec. then goes to off line. I have used cable method, and wireless method. It acts the same way when tring from a cabled desktop through a Belkin Wirless router.

I have a lap top and was having the "printer offline" problem

1) I did the triple click on the printer as in soluyion two to get the IP address which is clearly labled on the 3rd page.
2) Clicked on "Devices and Printers" in the "Start" menu
3) Right clicked the "Brother..." icon and selected "Remove Device"
4) Selected "Add Printer" on the "Devices and Printers" menu
5) Selected "Add a wireless, network, or bluetooth printer"

Nothing was coming up in the search so...

6) Selected "The printer I want isn't listed"
7) Selected "Add a printer using TCP/IP address or host name"
8) Entered the IP adress from the 3rd page of the printout on to the line "Host name or IP address"
9) Left the "Query..." box selected, clicked "next" and printer installed

Before I tried any of the 'reinstall everything' steps, I held the 'go' button down for 10 seconds to get the Network Configuration Page (as per Brother Web Site) and after it printed out, all my other print jobs printed as well.

On Windows XP the solution is as follows. Do the install per directions using the network cable method. Install BRAdmin light off the setup disk. ( password=access)Then, get into Printers And Faxes via the the Start->Settings method and DELETE the printer then (you will need the IP address of the printer, it will be something like For Windows® 2000/XP and Windows Server® 2003 8

c Click Next when you see the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard screen.
d Select Local printer and deselect the Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer

f The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard will now appear. Click Next.
g Enter the IP address, or the node name you wish to configure. The Wizard will automatically enter the
Port name information for you, then click Next.

I later discovered that rather than the install/delete/manual install method that there is a cleaner way. After the cable install the software then launches the driver install part. During this you get a screen which asks you how the computer will identify the printer. The default (recommended) part of the screen says pick from a list. The next option down is to input the IP address. USE THIS OPTION and it will work.

Just to add onto Solution #1. I did the main solution which worked, but I had the wrong IP address at first. The way to find it is to click on the "Go" button on the printer 3 times in quick succession. Then, you'll get a three page printout of settings -- the IP is on page 3.

In the first place, twofold watch that the printer is both on and associated. On the off chance that you haven't as of now, have a go at unplugging the printer from power for a couple of minutes and after that connect it back to.
Fizzling that, erase the printer in Devices and Printers and re-include it. On the off chance that that doesn't work, take a stab at reinstalling the driver.

Brother 2170W "fails to associate"

Have you tried the SecureEasySetup method of connecting your HL-2170W to your wireless network?

Basically, it involves no wires:

1) Press the wireless setup button on the back of your printer (you may need to use a pen or pointed object)

2) Press the SecureEasySetup button on your router

3) Let the two sort it out - Green Go button on printer indicates success.

Brother HL-4040CN successfully installed but shows offline

I assume it's turned on and connected to the router.
Sometimes with DHCP, the IP address on the printer will change. I end up going into the router table to see what IP addresses are assigned where. Invariably I'll find my network printer has changed. Find the printer and write it down.

In Windows, Go into Printers> choose the Brother and right click to check Properties. Look for Ports and change the IP address as needed. It will come back online.

Printer shows offline after installing correctly

make sure that the printer is turned on.
if you have the printer settings, you can check the configurations.
but if you have windows xp installed on your system, you can check the control panel, printers and faxes, then right click on the printer, you must set it as a default printer, and uncheck the use printer offline.

Hope this will help you solve your problem .
