SOURCE: HF 8 Space heater with a bad switch

If you locate and procure a switch, you can more than likely replace it yourself. Get a switch of like and you can see what you have to deal with, Always disconnect the electricity before you work on it Good Luck. It really isn't a big deal to do.If you can take and send pics by e-mail I can walk you through. [email protected]

I have an PATTON PUH 9000, it works when it want too on/off never really heating anything. As there is a RECALL on this unit, where do i get it fixed or my money back?

Here's a link to the site that has a phone number to call concerning the recall of last December.
Use it to determine if your model Patton heater was included in the recall.

There was also a recall in 1985.

I purchased a Patton heater PUH9000 in March 2006. I never opened the box until the other day 1/15/2011 when my blower moter on my furance stopped working. I unpacked the heater and pluged it in........

If it is the same as mine it takes a minute or two to start after you plug it in...this is a safety thing,in case it tips over...if it is tilted to much it will shut off...but will sart back up in a few minutes...

I purchased the Patton PUH9000 heater last year. I puts out a lot of heat at first, but shuts itself off after about 5 minutes, then cycles back on after a couple of minutes. Is this normal operation? I...

My Patton PUH682 utility heater from 2011 is otherwise in excellent condition but Auto Safety Shut-Off seems to be a design problem. My overheat sensor quickly shut off the unit when surrounding air was cool. It is inside the bottom of the fan box wired between the on/off potentiometer and heating coils.
I identified it by turning on the heater and watched the metal contacts separate as it tripped. On my unit, the defective overheat sensor is hardwired. Since it was otherwise useless as a heater, I decided to jerry-rig it and hope for the best. I pried back the sheet metal edge of the fan box and wrapped the sensor with electrical tape. Then I took a very small squeezable metal paper clip and lined it with electrical tape. I clamped it over the overheat sensor and it fits perfectly to prevent the metal plates from separating. Now the heater works the way it should. The cable, coils and plug don't overheat on Hot setting and it runs continuously.

Space heater will power up, but not start,

These fans have a safey feature (sensor) that shuts the heater off if it is tipped over. It sounds like this component is not functioning correctly - may be set wrong and will not allow the heater to turn on unless you shake it to reset the sensor. If it is still under warranty return heater, if not call Patton and ask for help.
