On our KitchenAid dishwasher we had the same problem--a REALLY loud squeak as it opened. The sound comes from the nylon rope slipping along the plastic pulleys. We've had the DW for about 3 years and the noise has gotten worse over time. I was determined to win the war against the noise and am happy to say I fixed it today.
The trick is to use a dry lubricant on the cord and on the pulleys. I used Dry Graphite by Gunk. It comes in an aerosol spray can and once the stuff dried the squeak was gone. I'll let you know if it comes back...

I had the same problem with my kitchen aid dishwasher. Schreaching noise when the door was used. Solution? Vaseline applied to the cords, using a long handled very small paint brush. The problem stems from the fact that of the two pulleys that interact with the pull cord, one pulley is stationary, and creates friction/noise as the tight cord moves around it. Regular Vaseline applied to each cord, left and right sides of the door relieved the noise. Lots of luck
I don't have a solution, but a question. I have a KitchenAid dishwasher with the same problem. How did you guys get access to the guides and pulleys? Do I have to remove the dishwasher door? or the bottom panel? Thanks!
I solved this problem for free. The left and right plastic pulleys can be switched, they are the same part. Switching the sides causes the unused side of the fixed pulley to be used. It's just like a new part for each side and eliminated the noise. FYI tried teflon spray lubricant first but it just made the pitch worse.
I agree with SylviaB. Lubricate the cords. They are rubbing against the pulleys. Oddly enough, on my Kenmore dishwasher, one of the "pulleys" is fixed, that is it does not rotate, so the cord is supposed to just slide over it. I think that's where the noise is coming from.
I tied a small paintbrush at the end of a wood stick to reach the cords without moving the dishwasher. I saturated the brush with a bicycle chain lubricant called Dumonde Tech. This lubricant is made to penetrate deep into a chain and then dry, leaving a dry lubricating film. I brushed the bits of cord that were reachable. The lubricant is thin enough to flow down the cords. After a day or two, after the lubricant dried and the noise disappeared.

When the new left and right side links were installed "as-is" the squeaking was better, but still too loud. What happens now is that when the nylon wheels turn they rub on their nylon axles and ... SQUEAK! I thought it would work to simply lubricate the axles. Easy? Not quite...
The following failed to fix the aggravating noise: WD-40; Spray silicone lubricant; Chapstick (for lips!); Candle wax; A bar of hand soap.
Finally, after disassembling and cleaning off each failed attempt, I tried: Silicone grease. That worked and we immediately had absolute silence! For a few days...until a slight squeak started to reappear. Ugh.
Steel wheels with steel ball bearings might be the only true fix.
My pulley wheels weren't rotating along with rope travel even when lubricated with lithium grease. Here's my solve 1) apply marine grease on wheel hubs 2) use wax on ropes 3) isolate pulley assembly from DW chassis using thin foam like shelf liner or craft shop foam!

I simply cleaned the ropes with robbing alcohol and noise was greatly reduced.
I too replaced my old spring assemblies with the new style- with double pulleys. All new stuff. first few tries- silence! then a few days later- sounds like a bunch of cellos playing out of tune. Ugh.
It's easy to tell the problem lies in the rubbing of the plastic pulleys on their plastic axis. And the spring and cord just amplify the sound like a stringed instrument.
I have tried to lubricate the cords and the pulley axis with WD-40, spray on "dry" Teflon, PB Blaster... nothing works.
I have not tried the soap on the rope as I have the double pulleys and they do rotate, so the cord is not sliding on the stationary guide like the old assembly.
I guess I will try to disassemble and see if I can find a lubricant that will stay IN the pulleys.
Unscrew underneath the counter and slide out the dishwasher out and rub unscented bar soap on the door cables and pulleys on each side.
Make sure you turn off water, disconnect water line, drain line, and electric before you pull it out.
Our Kitchenaid dishwasher door has been squeeking for a long time. After reading the posts here (very helpful) I tried several a couple of things. First I tried swapping the pulleys from one side to another, that did help slightly but the vibration / awful squeek was still there. I then tried a remedy of placing a zip tie around the upper stationary pully, that did the trick no more noise. Thanks everyone for the information and posting of very useful video.

We did find a solution to this squeaky door:
About that noisy door. I wrote you that the spring, or something had broken in my dishwasher door. In trying to figure out what we needed to do to fix that, we discovered that the door has a pully type system to make the door open and close correctly. The part that broke is the "tensioner" I think. (page 24 of the installation instructions if you have this document). The pully system consists of a spring, a cable and a pully type devise. My husband put some plumbing silicon grease on the pully wheel and that stopped the horrible noise. (We could see where the plastic wheel had been grinding away and leaving a powder or dust behind). We also replaced the cord piece on both sides since it had already broken on one side and was beginning to break on the other side.
We ordered parts through Sears. The part number on the bag is 8194001; Link DW. There is also a CODE071508. We ordered two sets as that is what we were told we needed. But each package has one pully unit and two cords, so one package would have done the job. The two sets with shipping and handling, and tax came to close to $50. But my dishwasher door seems to be good as new, finally.
