SOURCE: IBM 600E 2645 won't boot from CD rom

You can go into the BIOS and change the boot order of the drive devices, change the CD as the 1st boot device.
OR
As the laptop boots up, press F12, this will allow you to select the CD as a boot device.

SOURCE: cannot open cd-rom drive!

The thing about cd/dvd drives in general is that they die and thats the case here even if you deleted anything of the operating system its self would notice that the cd drive was missing the driver and ask you about it since you havent stated that its safe to say that the drive is dead

SOURCE: Upgrading CD-Rom to CD-RW/DVD Rom - what model?

according to the system information on the Lenovo support page (IBM support outsourced)

the r40e has an Ultrabay system which means that the CDROM can be unplugged and slid out uning the press to release latch

if you look on the CD /DVD drive options matrix on the following page, you should be able to select any of the Ultrabay 2000 drives
the part numbers are there, so all you need to do is put the part number into google or any search engine to find yourself an online price

I think the Ibm Multi-burner is the best drive option given though

Dvd works in Power DVD program but cds (music) not working?

Make sure the DVD/CD rom has the latest drivers from Dell.com and that all of the updates have been installed for windows.

I've found that when using Windows 7 32 bit, that the windows drivers work fine for CDs on my Acer Aspire laptop.

Maybe try another program for the CD playing, downloadable from the Internet.

Maybe try to use a cd-rom lens cleaner if the lens seems to be dusty or dirty.

Good luck on this repair.

When I insert a disk nothing happens, it makes really loud noises asif its about to take off. This carrys on and my computer does not recognise there has been a disk inserted.

The driver for your CD-ROM needs to be UPDATED. click start, then control panel, click performance and maintenance, then click system, click the hardware tab, then click DEVICE MANAGER.under the CD/DVD ROM DRIVES, your CD-ROM should be listed. It may have a "?" mark or "!" to show the driver is out of date. If so, then right click on the device, click the "driver" tab, and click update driver. If the driver is updated, but the CD-ROM is still not functioning, follow the same steps, however; when you right click the device and enter the properties, instead of entering driver, click the "PROPERTIES TAB: and UN-CHECK the box in the DIGITAL CD PLAYBACK. If that does not work, then search online for a driver that is compatable with your windows system,

Sony CD-RW CRX320EE driver update

CD-Rom and DVD drives in itself do not need drivers in Windows, but the IDE/SATA controllers they are connected to do, so maybe that is what you are looking for?
You can use a driver update program or check the website of your motherboard manufacturer.

Tsstcorp cd dvdw ts-l633a scsi cdrom device can't read the driver or it is corrupt. I am getting error code 39

Using Device Manager, look to see it laptop is sensing the presence of the cd-rom. (if it is not on the list, try removing / rebooting / and then reinstalling cd-rom) If it shows on the list, click to open it's properties and then delete the drivers for cd-rom (this will cause the laptop to reload the drivers on the next reboot) if it still doesn't work, go to micosoft updates and try to update the drivers there. If it still malfunctions, then the cd-rom may be faulty. Try replacing it with another cd-rom and see what you get.

My Cd-Rom/DVD-rom don't work. It doesn't open any folder. I thought I have problems with drivers: SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM SCSI CdrOM DEVICE DVD-ROM SD-R2102 TOSHIBA LAPTOP SATELLITE 5005-S507 THANKS, OSCAR

According to the Toshiba website, the scsi cd-rom/dvd-rom does not require a driver to operate, but the driver for the scsi controller card it plugs into may need to be reinstalled or updated. Visit the following link, and go to the section labeled scsi cdrom/dvdrom. At the bottom of this section there are two links to websites where you may be able to find the drivers for your scsi controller card.

Cd rom

Where can I get the driver for my CD-ROM?
Visit our hardware download section to obtain a generic CD-ROM driver (oakcdrom.sys) and mscdex.exe if needed.
If you are looking for a specific driver for your CD-ROM drive or a Firmware update, please see our CD-ROM driver page.
