Erratic operation thru top copy/fax function

When you try to copy from the top copy/fax tray the machine wants to pull the paper tighter from one side than the other and it stops when pulling the first sheet or it could be the second or third sheet that it stops/jams ?? - not really sure what to call it. The paper does not get clogged in the machine only stops pulling the paper thru as if the tension has caused it to do this. It may have faxed or copied three or whatever sheets before it stops, gives out the warning sound and you have to fix it. You have to pull the last sheet out of the slot and then lift the lid and restart the action. It may do this 8 to 10 times in a row before it just works. ? ... No rhyme or reason when it is going to do this. I have tried cleaning the rollers and whatever is included in pulling the paper thru process and it has not helped. I have found that sometimes I can - and don't know why this works sometimes - turn my papers around and send the opposite end thru and it will work smooth as ever .... but that is not consistent either. I see no way to adjust the roller / belt - whatever, without taking it apart -- and really don't want to get into that without some assistance. The machine works so well otherwise -- I hate to send it out to pasture...! But it makes it a real problem when you want to fax something and it takes 10 min's to get it to go thru the machine.... and that's the only way the fax will work --- thru the top. PLease help, I need it to work correctly.

I don't really want to get into this, but you sound desparate. i don't work on your model very often, so bear with me. When a sheet jams, don't just pull it out. Open the document feeder as far as you can and note where it stopped (the side tha DID NOT feed). Look for a possible obstruction or even spot of something that looks dirty or sticky. If so, remove or clean it. Look at the leading edge of the jammed sheet, see if there are any indentations that could possibly line up with a sensor flag, roller edge, etc. Last suggestion. Press down of the side of the document feeder that DID NOT feed through. If this helps, then there is a problem with the latch that holds the document feeder closed. Without seeing the unit it is difficult to diagnose correctly. Let me know one way or the other. Any observations will be helpful. Ed One more thing! Make sure the leading edges of the pages you are sending are perfectly straight and smooth. Make sure that they HAVE NOT been stapled at one time (the indentation can cause a problem)

Change toner

Step 1 Check the top of your Canon fax/copy machine to see if your specific model has a protruding extension piece from the plastic delivery tray. Push the extension piece down if one is present on your model.
Step 2
Grip the bottom edge of the paper delivery tray at the front of the machine. Lift the tray upward to reveal the rectangular, plastic toner cartridge inside the machine.

Step 3
Grab the handle at the top of the current toner cartridge and lift the cartridge upward. Pull the toner out of the machine and set it aside.
Step 4
Set your replacement toner cartridge over the empty space in the fax/copy machine. Ensure that the arrow near the bottom of the cartridge is facing down, and line up the protruding guide piece on the left side of the cartridge with the groove inside the machine. Push the toner downward until it snaps into position.
Step 5
Push the paper delivery tray back down, and lift up the extension piece if your model uses one.

Paper jams when I put it in the tray to fax (from the top tray)

your wheel on one side is impacted with small pieces of paper
this causes the paper flow to go unevenly you need to clean you wheels on both sides oil them and wipe dry with a paper towel
then do the paper feed jam clear and let a few pieces go thru to pick up any remiaining debris

I need to change our Canon IR2016 from A4 to A3, Also I need to activate 1 to double sided copies. I am looking on line for the user manual for the IR2016 but can't find

ir2016 is allready A3 size copier.you can change tray setting.pull out tray from machine and then set A3 paper on it according to paper you must change blue lever position from A4 to A3.then close your tray.now you can work with A3 size paper
for double side copying you must be installed a "duplex unit" which is not come with standard machine. It is an optional unit.after that you can make double sided copying.

To fax do you send paper through it or scan it to an e-mail

Assuming you have it hooked up to a phone line that is capable of dialing the number you want to fax to, you put your paper in the top tray, dial the number and hit send. The machine will pull through the paper and deposit it under that top tray. You will want to make a copy first so you know you are putting in the paper facing the right direction (it should be face up.) Put a single sheet face up in the top tray and hit copy. If what comes out of the bottom-most tray underneath is an exact copy of your original, then you're fine, if it's blank, then flip the orginal over and try again.

For faxing from the MFC-290C is it face up or face down?

Try making a copy of something, if it comes out blank, try the other way. The copy and fax functions work the same.

Hope this helps

PANASONIC FAX MACHINE PRINTING BLACK THICK LINE

Open the front of the fax machine. Then pull down the the tray that has the down arrow imprinted on it. Locate the glass strip towards the back, just behind the center roller. Use a cloth and rubbing alcohol to clean the glass and that should remove the black line.

Check Rec Paper

First power off the machine. Facing the machine from the front, remove the rear tray extension that holds the paper and "feel your way" down into the right side of the of the back paper tray. You should feel a out-of-round feed roller. With a little effort you can rotate this around. Take a terry like cloth and dampen it with water and clean this roller. Before puttin any paper back into the tray, turn the machine back on so the paper feed assembly will return to the home position.
