You need to open the grinder, it`s probably packed with old fine powdered coffee that blocks the outlet. Clean this out and try again. Since it works normal when you use pre-ground coffee, there shouldn`t be any problems with any other parts.
Let me know if you want a description for have to open and clean the grinder.
Good luck!

I had a similar problem, and solved it by turning the grinder by hand against resistance. Apparently the grinder wasn't really turning during the cycle and needed to be cleared. If your beans are "hopping" this may be a different problem.
Testimonial: "Grinder is turning but old bean oil is clogging it. Stirring beans on next brewing after drying the grinder was also customer services recommendation"

Use the TABLET CLEANING. please refer to this manual here on page 24 if you don't have one.

Yes, this butter knife trick is the way that Capresso customer service recommends. Just to clarify the tip of the butter knife is the only portion inserted...DO NOT shove the entire blade into the grinder. Just the tip in the furthest to the right side of the "smiley face ****" that is on the top of the grinder without the clear plastic hopper. just imagine a birds eye view. Once you have the tip of the butter knife all the way to the right of the "smiley face ****" then just rotate counter-clockwise until it does not go any further. This should have dislodged the top part of the grinding cone and then simply pick it up with your fingers, flip 180 and put it in the correct way.

First of all the solution IS NOT in the manual. Second of all, you shouldn't go taking the grinder apart. It is soooooooo simple. You just have to rotate the black part where the long **** is counter clockwise until it's at about 2 o'clock. The blade slips right off. I saw a post about someone sending it in for repair for this same problem. It must be a lie because this is not a problem that needs a repair solution. It is a very simple fix. No tools no springs popping out at you, no nothing. Again, Just hold onto the black part with the ****. It moves. Turn it counterclockwise to about 2 o'clock. The blade slips off.
