SOURCE: Remote Doesn't Work for TV, but Works for TV
You might have lost the code from the remote which identifies the tv to your remote. If you have the manual that came with the remote you might try entering the code again. ( reprogram the remote). Stargazer

Could also be the field output chip - seems to be a common problem with Hitachi TVs of a certain age, sometimes caused by absence of thermal paste on the back of the chip. Check solder joints on each leg before replacing chip itself.

Will not turn on. TV is pluged in its almost like a power surge. The power bar is lit so for some reason the tv is not getting power.
SOURCE: - SKY REMOTE CODES
I own a One-for-All universal remote (model URC-4220), and my booklet says the setup code for a Hitachi TV is either 0000 or 0145. If these numbers do not work, then I would buy a newer universal remote. They can purchased at Walmart for less than 10 dollars.

I had exactly the same problem. I finally found the power button on the underside of the TV. It is well hidden and to find it, you need to run your fingers underneath the panel. Turn it off for a minute or so and turn it back on and then turn on the switch on the panel on the upper right side where the channel and volume buttons are. It works.
