Getting "Check Ink Cartridge" error with a generic cartridge

Hi, I've recently inserted a generic (black) ink cartridge as my old (also generic) one went out of ink. I bought a colour cartridge and black cartridge at the same time from the same generic brand, but only my black one is being refused by my HP PSC 1510 all-in-one.
I've tried various approaches after searching on the net, for days on, but to no avail.
I would be extremely grateful if someone can help me out. Thanks a lot in advance!

I'm having the same problem with an HP psc2310 all in one. I was using the generic black ink cartridge for some time before this happened. Now, no matter how often I remove and replace it, it won't work.

SOURCE: HP PHOTOSMART C4280 PRINTER WONT READ INK CARTRIDGE.

The cartridge is not seated properly and/or the contacts are dirty. Use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and gently clean both the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge socket. Allow several minutes to dry and then try again.

SOURCE: hp 2610xi not recognizing HP 97 color cartridge

If you look in the 96 (Black) cartridge loading area you might see that the retention spring has poked a hole in the circut board. I am now either trying to replace the ink cartridge holder or purchace a new printer. I have about $70.00 in new ink that I can't use now. The 2610xi worked great until the spring popped out of its holder.

SOURCE: cartridge error hp officejet j6480 generic cartridge

I own one of these printers and refill cartridges for a living. When you get this problem its best to return the cartridge for another, thats what I do for my customers.

When buying re-manufactured cartridges its best to buy from a local store and ask about there return policy before making your first purchase.

If you are buying from a reputable re-manufacturer then this will be a very rare problem. It happens with genuine HPs too.

BTW this printer uses HP 74 & 75 inks. when buying re-manufactured buy the HP 74xl which gives (according to HP) 750 printers compared to 200 from the HP74. Remanufactured HP75s are fill to HP75xl capacity.

Advent resetting ink levels

Hi There
Your all-in-one printer is designed to stop printing before quality is compromised. Make sure you always use KODAK Ink Cartridges. Kodak is not responsible for the compatibility or performance of non-Kodak brand ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges. To purchase KODAK Ink Cartridges, go to the KODAK Store.
To resolve the error, replace the black ink cartridge with a new cartridge:
  1. Turn on your printer.
  2. Open the access door. For printers with LCDs, follow the instructions on the LCD screen.

NOTE: For ESP 3250 and ESP 5250 all-in-one printers, if the ink cartridges don't move to the center when you follow the instructions on the LCD screen, see Printhead and ink cartridges do not move to center with access door open.
  3. When the printhead stops moving, pinch the latch on the black ink cartridge and lift it out of the printhead.
  4. Remove the new black ink cartridge from its bag.
  5. Remove the protective cap from the black ink cartridge.

CAUTION: Insert the ink cartridge immediately to prevent the printhead from drying out.
  6. Insert the black ink cartridge into the printhead.
  7. Press down on the tab until you hear a click.
  8. Close the access door. For printers with LCDs, follow the instructions on the LCD screen.

NOTE: For more information on installing ink cartridges, see the Extended User Guide for your printer. Review Maintaining Your Printer - Replacing ink cartridges.
If the error continues, upgrade the firmware for your printer:
  1. Press the Cancel button on your printer to clear the error message. (If the error does not clear, contact us.)
  2. Upgrade the firmware for your printer:
    1. Locate and select the firmware download for your printer.
    2. Follow the instructions to install the firmware.
  3. If the error continues, contact us.

Does not recongnize ink cartridge

Make sure you've removed the protective tape from the cartridges that you inserted into the printer and that the cartridges were installed properly. Are you getting an error message or is the printer just not printing? If you get an error such as Error U041 or U043, the printer may just be low on ink or have a bad ink cartridge.

I have inserted a new black ink cartridge (34) and get an error message 'left cartridge missing, insert black or colour photo cartridge' have peeled label off and reinserted several times but still...

Make sure you are inserting a genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to insert a different known working cartridge, maybe your old black cartridge, to determine if your new cartridge is faulty. If inserting your old black cartridge gives you a message saying "very low ink" or something to that effect, then most probably there's something wrong with the new black cartridge. Have it replaced with a new one from the store where you bought it from. You may also contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.

Why is my printer only printing Green?

Hello,
First of all, check that all the tanks are well-seated. You might want to examine the tanks to make sure that they have enough ink and that it seems to flow freely. Second, do either head cleaning by going into the "maintenance" portion of your printer. That usually clears my problem, although I've only had it with the most recent ink tanks I bought (Canon ink). Don't buy any refills or other non-Canon inks, as it only gums up the inkjets. Getting the wrong color is probably due to the the black inkjet being plugged up bu gummy ink. I had to scrap a printer once because I used false economy and bought "generic" ink. Today's printers are very delicate machines with the nozzles in picoliters and getting smaller everyday, so that the spray is finer, hence higher quality photos/text. If you like my solution kindly rate me..

Thankyou

I guess you d used generic ink carts?!
If yes, the cart holder needs replacement due to ink that has stained the led control. The ink has made a short circuit. The error can only be deleted by replacing the whole cart holder!

Cartridge error

How I solved this problem was, I took out the color cartridge (which seem to be the one giving the error message) and worked only with the black ink (and chose print black and white )

My color ink cartridge had been refilled at Walgreens. The Black ink cartridge is an original Lexmark
