The needle isn't catching the bobbin thread at all, does anyone have any solutions? I have rethreaded from restart, tried new thread and bobbin and checked direction of bobbin.

Did you change the needle? If that doesn't solve the problem then it's probably out of time. Take it in for repair.

SOURCE: The bobbin thread is not

try a new needle
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure the bobbin case area is free of lint or loose thread
make sure you hold the upper thread tail while it's going down to pick up the bobbin thread
make sure there is a 2 to 4 in tail for the upper thread to grab

SOURCE: I have a brother pe 770 and the bobbin will not

You need to sew the first stitch slowly. Lower the needle by hand and take up carefully. Pull the needle thread up and the bobbin thread should be caught in the formed loop and come with it. Pull them both to the back of the machine and sew.

BOTTOM THREAD WONT CATCH

are you sure you have the bobbin in correctly? I mean most machines require that the bobbin un-spool in a specific direction to work properly. Also make sure your needle isn't damaged or bent and is inserted fully into the needle bar.

Good luck

Needle wont catch thread from bobbin

check the needle to see if it's in backwards---flat side should go to the back of the machine
make sure the needle is inserted all the way up into the needle holder.
make sure it the right needle for the machine to use.

My thread keeps breaking at the end of my sewing session. not sure why, I've been sewing blocks for a quilt and I've tried to change the thread

Upper thread breaks
1.needle may be in backwards
Correct needle insertion
Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use of sewing machine.
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the clamp screw to remove the old needle, place the new needle in the clamp with the flat side to the back of the machine or if using a round needle--the groove in the needle should face away from the shaft.
Push the needle all the way up to the stop or as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw
2.upper tension may be to tight--try 3 to 5
3.the needle may be bent or damaged--try rolling the needle on a flat surface to see if it's bent or not
4.thread may be hanging up in bobbin case--check area for loose threads or lint
???
Lower thread breaks
The most probable cause of lower thread breaking is improperly wound bobbin
1.always start with a empty bobbin
Never wind one color over the other
2.choose thread that is identical in color & type as the one to be used for upper threading
3.wind the bobbin evenly across & in layers
4.don't wind the bobbin so full that it would be tight & hard to insert into bobbin case
5.bent bobbin--replace
6.lint built up in the bobbin case--frequent cleanings will eliminate this problem, the more often you use the sewing machine the more often it needs to be cleaned
7.thread catching on the bobbin spring or latch on bobbin case, check to see that the bobbin is inserted completely & correctly, & that you are using the right kind of bobbin .

I have threaded up my machine and have started to sew. The thread on the back of the fabric keeps catching and bunches up. What's going wrong?

try a new needle

keep a check on the thread take up lever that the thread doesn't come off of it

rethread the machine to make sure that the thread isn't catching on anything

clean under the needle plate for loose thread or lint & in the bobbin area also

make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly

My machine is new and worked briefly but now . . . . the machine is threaded correctly and the bobbin is placed correctly. When turning the knob for the initial pick up of the bobbin thread, it does not...

You have described your problem just fine. Have you just changed the needle in your machine? If so, check it is in the right way, you want the flat shank to the back.

The needle has a scarf (scoop out) at the back - if it is facing to the front then the rotary hook (bit that goes around the bobbin and catches the top thread) can't catch the needle thread behind the needle.

Also check needle is fully up into the housing, this could also cause problem.

I'd suggest that you visit www.sewingabout.com and check out the pages on general sewing machine use, care and threading up, lots of helpful pictures and information which may be of assistance to you.

If it isn't your needle backwards (very easy to get wrong, happens all the time), then the timing could be out, which isn't so easy, but as its new I'd be very suprised if this was the fault. Just check needle, make sure top and bottom threads are threaded correctly and have another go. Also, remember to turn flywheel towards you.

I had to change the needle when I retreaded it it doesn't catch from the bobbin, the clutch is in the proper position, I've re threaded and re inserted the bobbin, but it doesn't stitch

NEEDLE TROUBLESHOOTING:

Is in backwards, Needle mantra is "insert needle with the flat shank to the back of the machine". Needles have a scarf (cut out) at the back where the hook swings through and catches the thread, if it isn't facing the right way, then the thread can't be caught by the hook.
Is it fully up into the needle housing?
Is it the right needle for the machine. Most domestic machines take the standard 705/130H system needle.
Is it bent, blunt or burred, always start each job with a new needle from the packet, choosing the right sized needle for the fabric weight, and sharp for wovens, or ballpoint for knits.

Good needle chart, threading and machine cleaning info at www.sewing.about.com if you don't have a manual.

If you have tried all these things and still no joy, then it is possible that the machine timing has been knocked out, ie the sequence between needle at it's lowest point and when the rotary hook swings around and catches the thread from the back of the needle. But try the above first and I hope it resolves your problem. Timing is best left to a trained technician.

Make sure the bobbin has a 3-5 inch thread tail
Then make sure the top thread has a 3-5 inch tail
Then hold the top thread tail with your fingers (away from the needle)
& use the hand wheel on the right hand side of the machine to slowly
Lower the needle in the bobbin area & see if the bobbin thread will pick
