Gateway mx 6421 win764 driver issues

Upgraded from Win xp to win vista to win 7 64. All went well until I moved to Win 7 64. Cannot find drivers for Audio, Modem, Card Reader that work with Win 7. Tried Gateway website, only have Vista 64 no Win 7. Sound, Modem, Card Reader do not work. I have looked for three days no luck getting drivers. On the Gateway website the Vista 64 drivers are listed as Audio/Modem Conexant, the Card Reader TI. The drivers are listed separate downloads. Question: Should I be looking for a Chipset/ Motherboard driver?

I found the drivers for the specific devices for the Audio,Conexant AC-Link controllers and Modem,AC97 Data Fax SoftModem with SmartCP from a HP machine and changed a few lines of code in the drivers and modified the drivers,Vista 64bit, for Win 7 64bit and loaded the drivers on my old gateway mx6421. Problem Solved.

You could, drivers are based on manufacture. Like Realtek is a common maker of audio chips, and sometimes distributors use a popular motherboard.
You may have plateaued at Vista, by try the Troubleshooting Compatibility with Vista 64 drivers before you roll it back.

BTW - This happened to me with Win 8.

SOURCE: Gateway 450rog Audio problem

I have just re-imaged a Gateway 450 ROG for a friend of mine on the website the audio driver is found (http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=3501353) under the heading Sound Downloads. This unzips a list of files C:\cabs\9520522
Readme.txt
stac97(security catalog)
stac97(control panel extension)
stac97 (setup information)
stac97(system file)
1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.
3. In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.
4. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
5. In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Other Devices, and then double-click Multimedia Audio Controller.
6. In the Multimedia Audio Controller Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
7. In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.
8. In the next dialog box, click Search for the best driver in these locations, and then click Include this location in the search.
9. In the text box, type: C:\CABS\9520522. Click Next.
10. Click Finish.
Now once installed sound only comes from using the headphone jack, the external speakers get a little sound if the volume is turned up to maximum.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Gateway 405ROG Wireless Card Driver Problem

Did you try running the driver update tool from Gateway's website? These tools are usually pretty good with finding the drivers for the specific hardware of computers automatically for you:

My gateway 506gr came with XP. I upgraded to Vista, and now to Win 7Ultimate. I can't seem to get the correct audio driver for this desktop pc on windows 7. Vista, everything was ok

There have been alot of problems with Windows 7 and older software compatabilty. I have conflicting info on what audio you system has. One says Realtek:
http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?partNumber=4367
This site supports up to Windows Vista but, in some cases Vista will work with Win 7. You can also try here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/
Another said Intel, which you can try here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?iid=subhdr+downloads
With Intel, click on the "run Intel Driver Update", and let Intel scan your system, because they will let you know if your sound is theirs or not. What it may come down to is, if you can't find a driver, and, want Windows 7, you may have to upgrade to a sound or graphics card.
Good luck,
Dave

I downgraded from vista to xp and now i need a sound driver compatible for my gateway:w34oui

This is another tough one.
Since GW does not have Win XP drivers available for your system, it will be difficult to find a sound driver that will work. You could try to use the Vista driver, but I would be skeptical that it will work to use that driver because of the way that sounds are processed in Vista/Win 7.
You didn't mention why you did the downgrade, but if it was performance related, Win 7 should work fine with your system. If there was a certain program etc., that you need, there is another option.
There are many USB soundcards that will will work well with Win XP, and they should not have the XP problem since their hardware is designed to work with XP. Note: If you go this route, make sure you choose one that is Win XP compatible. One other thing on this option, though. Your internal speakers may not route sound through the USB soundcard, which would mean then that you would need external speakers to get sound. I understand that may be a deal-breaker, which is why I would (unless you specifically need XP) either go back to Vista or upgrade to Win 7. Some version of Win 7 feature "XP mode" which allows you to run programs in a virtual Win XP environment. I have not had perfect luck getting XP programs to work, but it's worth a try.

Error message on Canon scanner -there is a twain error, device might not be connected. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium recently upgraded from Vista Home Premium. What do I need to do to be able to use...

Was it all working OK before you upgraded from VISTA? If yes this sounds like a driver problem. Visit the cannon site and download their latest drivers for Win 7 - that is if there are any yet. As an early adoptor of Win 7 you can expect to have issues with hardware drivers where manufacturers have not yet developed them for Win 7. Once Win 7 has been out and about for 12 to 18 months most manufactures will have caught up and issued new drivers.

Have deleted vista off toshiba satelite s2276, deleted all partitions, repartitioned to single large drive, formatted, booted from floppy, win 98 se setup started and working until installing drivers then...

If your system came with Vista pre-installed it is likely there are no XP or eariler drivers available for it, in which case you will have to stick with Vista or Windows 7.
