Need to perform a hard reset for hds5 lowrance unit

You can try holding in the zoom in/out buttons (+/-) as you push and release the power button.
Hold the zoom keys until you hear a beep.
If your hard restart is successful. You should see the GPS screen with prompts for language etc.
if you cannot get the system to cooperate and all you see is the "Lowrance" screen, then you are experiencing a Castro pic system failure and the unit needs to go back to Lowrance.

Sounds lie it has a memory problem... perhaps a failed internal memory chip... are you using an external mem card with it as well?

One of the settings is 180 degrees off. Go back through the manual and check all of your setup settings. I had that happen once to me.

depends on how old the unit is most the time they tell you oh well !!

Press the Exit button. You can toggle between what you are looking at and your present location just by pressing the exit button. I have a HDS5, and that is how it works. Spent a year trying to figure it out. It was that simple.

try this ,
1.) turn off unit
2.) press and hold pages key
3.) press and hold power key
4.) release both buttons when the USA map appears

A "soft reset" can be accomplished by pressing and hold "Pages" key and press and hold "PWR" key till USA map comes on , then release both. A "hard reset" requires press and hold both "Z in" and "Z out" buttons and press and hold "PWR" button releasing all three when USA map appears.
