Have tried hp wireless assistant to no avail
Can you check to show whether your wireless adapter is showing up in Device Manager? (Go to Control Panel if you don't know where to find Device Manager) Your wireless card should show up under Network Adapters. If it does not, check your unidentified devices for "Unidentified NIC" or something like that.
If you do see it as an unidentified device, visit the HP site's support section to download the latest drivers for it.
If it is listed in the correct section, make sure it is enabled by right clicking its name and selecting enable. (This option will not be visible if it is already enabled)
If it is identified and enabled, try to uninstall and reinstall HP Wireless Assistant.
If none of those work, you may have a hardware issue and you should gather your warranty and support information and give HP a call.

Your wireless zero configuration being manipulated by the add-on service of manufacturer software. first you can manually turn in the Wireless Zero Configuration by typing services.msc on run menu. After you run the services you will see Wireless Zero configuration please enable and start it with the given option.
Next you can open the Wireless Network Connection option, uncheck the add on protocols, such as AEGIS and WLAN protocol. after restart computer should work with wireless without problem.
Please post if you need further assistance.

SOURCE: wireless button
If your 6710b has wireless, the button is a little touch icon above the f4 key on your keypad, about 3 inches to the right of your power button; it's supposed to look like a little picture of an antenna with radio signals coming from it (( | )). When it's on, the picture will light up blue.
