I have a model 9860BDS, slide in electric/gas range. It has a preheat button, and it will start to preheat a selected degree, but in a second shuts down, and returns to clock display.--is not preheating.
I also have a problem with the downdraft vent. When I press to button for high-low vent, it asks me for a hi-lo temperature for a "warming tray" which I don't have, and have never seen this option before.
Any insight is helpful. This is only 2.5 years old.

I eventually replaced the oven ignitor. That has solved the problem.
SOURCE: Takes to long to Preheat
the burner element iside the oven(the rod that glow,s orange) is burned out, even though it glows and the oven is warm, the element is worn out and has to be replaced, unplug the oven, shutt off gas supply to oven, pull off back cover youll see the rod coming thru each end of the rod will have 1 wire unplug the wire off the clip,go back to the inside the oven follow the rod to the back youll see 2 screws holding the rod unscrew and pull rod thru, easy job and elements arent exspensive, but make sure to unplug oven, and shut off gas

You don't list a full model number or how old this range is, or how long / how often you have this problem, but generally it sounds like the oven ignitor is not quite drawing enough amps to allow the gas valve to open regularly. It could be a low voltage related issue, but most likely is a failing oven ignitor. ( WB2X9154)

I would be suspicious of the thermostat. It or the sensing element may have failed.

Unless they start working again after it has a chance to dry out the touch panel will have to be replaced. This happens when excess moisture gets between the very thin layers of the membrane.
