what exactly should I try to fix this problem? Could it just be the DVD player, although it plays the movie?

  • jim10954 Jan 02, 2009

this problem began with my old receiver, so I replaced it with this new receiver. However, the problem remains.

  • jim10954 Jan 03, 2009

Thanks for your help. This seems to have been the problem.

Check the Coax cable, a bad cable can be cause for this, particularly if the unit is shutting down.Have the cable checked and replaced, le linet carries enough voltage to damage the machine.

It sure dosent sound good!! The clicking sound you here are the protection relays to assist in protecting your speakers from blowing out. Your output devices are shorted it sounds like. Do not ever ever attemp to jump out those relays as it will burn out your speakers and possibly burn down your house!. Theres alot of current inthese amps for high power so if your not a tech and you think its worth it take the unit in to be looked at as there are no serviceable user parts inside these units . Sorry to have to tell ya this.. Good Luck

This means your receiver is protecting itself from overheating. If it has an internal fan it may not be operating, if it doesn't you may need to create enough space on top and below the unit to allow air to pass through it enough to cool it. Good luck!

Problem seems mismatch of speaker impedance with receiver. Check receiver specifications and hook up required impedance speakers, for example 8 ohms.
Due to over current flow in amplifier on high volume, protections activated and receiver goes to shut down.

My Onkyo TX-SR506 plays cable and CD inputs to zone 2, but DVD won't play. Everything is connected according to the manual and I assigned zone 2 output correctly. What gives?

How are your cable and cd inputs hooked up? Analog connections? Alot of receivers cannot send an audio signal from hdmi inputs to zone 2.

I have an onkyo tx-sr506 and the system shuts off as I turn up the volume. It doesn't get very loud (barely audible) before shutting off.

Check speakers for distorted or dead drivers . Disconnect and repair. receiver will blown if not disconnected.

My receiver can't transmit sound through the hdmi cable

If it has HDMI it can transmit sound. Try a different cable. IF still no sound you may have a bad HDMI output or input on the rceiving device

I have a onkyo tx-sr506 receiver that turns it self off

This unit is in protect mode. This means that a problem was detected and the unit has shutdown to prevent further damage. The most common cause of this is failed output transistors. Plan on $20-$40 for parts for this repair.

Audio connections between Onkyo TX-DS575 and Sony DVD DVP-NS77H

If you are using digital optical or digital coaial and getting sound on regular 5.1 dvd's your conections are fine. With sony players you have to get into the setup menu and turn DTS "ON" in the audio sub-menu. For some reason they default it to "off".
