Oven burner flame is low

Just switched my GE gas oven/stove over from propane to natural gas. I changed the orifices for the stove top and switched the regulator cap from propane to the natural gas position. The stove top burners work great but the oven burner flame is very low. I checked the oven burner where it meets the safety valve and it is set to the natural gas position as it should be. It seems like I'm not getting enough gas pressure to the oven burner but I don't know I'm not an expert! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oven burner flame is low - 0000000.jpgOn top of that safety valve is a nut. Get a good fitting wrench. Turn on the oven and use that good fitting wrench on that nut. Turn it counterclockwise till the flame comes up about midways of the flame spreader. Don't get the flames too high. Midways of the spreader now. LOL

Convert lp natural gas

To convert a lincoln LP gas oven to a natural gas, you actually first of all need to buy from the supplier an orifice ment for natural gas and change. The difference in the orifices could be in the size of orifice aperture.
The orifice i'm talking about is located in the burner assembly. you got to dis assemble the burner so as to get to it.
After that you need to adjust the main gas manifold when the oven is on. The adjustment must be done such that the pilot flame is not yellowish
tip

Changing your gas appliance from natural gas to LP or vice versa.

You have an LP gas stove which you really like and would like to take to a new home but the new home has a natural gas hookup. Since natural gas is already available it would be convenient to be able to use it. Can you convert your unit over to work on natural gas?

Yes it is possible to convert any LP gas appliance to natural gas or from natural gas to LP. The only difference is the size of the orifice used in the burner.

LP gas is composed of a much larger molecule than natural gas and requires a larger orifice to output the same amount of gas as a natural gas unit at the same setting. Therefore if you used an LP stove on natural gas it would produce too much heat and burn rather intensely. If you used a natural gas stove on LP it would not have much flame at all. You can see the problem. The solution is also obvious. You need the correct orifice.

Changing the orifice is easy. It is located in the middle of the burner and unscrews out of the unit. Install the new one the opposite way. Do not overtighten it.Usually the burners are made of soft metal and can strip easily.

The parts you would need are available at most good appliance stores but I would recommend the following site http://www.repairclinic.com . The parts will be cheaper at repairclinic. They have parts for almost any brand and a great search engine. They also have excellent videos showing how to make the repair.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Need to kmow location to change orfis to change from n gas to lp

when changing a stove or oven from natural to lp the orifices would be inside the burners or under the upper deck of the oven also you would also need to flip the cap around on the gas regulator as well if you have a model number i might be able to show you a schematic of how to locate your orifices on most units the upper deck flips upwards in order to provide you access under the burners this is where the orifices are usually access As a matter of fact I have 9 today that I will be personally switching from propane to natural not only amanas either fun day for me planned if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion has helped when our chat has fully concluded it allows me to continue helping people in similar situations in the future Thanks again Rick

Purchased a used gas oven yesterday. The top burners are working fine, but the oven is sooting up. We live in the country and use propane, but did not receive any additional orfice or instructions. In the...

We need a model number to be specific.
Check the gas regulator and make sure the pressure cap has been set for propane. Most of them are turned over to put more pressure inside the valve.
If so. Check the air shutter on the bake gas tube and adjust for the best color flame.
Also tighten the bake burner orifice with a 1/2 inch wrench.

Problem gas cooker

Go on line to westing house.com and look up your model, go to the help page and ask for their assistance, gas is not something to fool around with, I suspect it is the orifice that have not been converted to propane, I had a similar problenm with the stove top burners, and the orifices needed to be changed to (converted ) to run on propane gas. Some times manufactures send the converter orfices but most of the time you have to ask for them if you are running on propane, most stoves are set up for natural gas not propane. Most of the time the store clerks don't ask you if you will be running on propane , you have to tell them and the professional who installs the unit needs to install the orifices. Please be careful! If you installed the stove your self, you need to contact a professional installer to correctly adjust these .

Converting aan LP oven to gas

In most cases the pressure regulator has to be changed or adjusted. The orfices on each burner, oven, broiler and surface burner may need to be changed also. Sometimes they can be adjusted. Sometimes the threads on the pipe are different also. This is to prevent accidental connection to the wrong fuel. The big difference is the gas pressure. LP is usually around 10 - 12 lbs and natural gas is usually around 3 lbs. Properly adjusted you will like natural gas much better than LP as it is slightly hotter. The information will be in the instruction book and also on the Jenn air web site. Whirlpool owns both Maytag and Jenn aire so check all sites. The conversion kit is usually less than $50.
