2001 ford focus we have replaced the fuel pump after trblshooting the vehicle would run at idle if started with a id of carb cleaned down the throat. Thw new pump required a mod to the tank removing the orriginat pump mount on the bottom of the tank. The new pump sits unsupported in the tank we questioned this but were assured this was the only option. ASnyway now the vehicle witn 2.5 gals fuel will not run and seens there is no fuel level gauge responce. we also tried a different fuel pump module with no affect. so whats up ? what is the componet located directly behind the tank n\? The car will still start spraying carb cleaner in it but wont run

how hard was it to pump it by hand?Iwould be suprised if a mechanical fuel pump could be easily pumped by hand as the spring pressure required to hold the arm against the eccentric is considerable If its a cleveland or windsor you cannot pump by hand.I own a 1980 running a cleveland and found that if you put an electric pump as close to the fuel tank as possible and have a good original mechanical pump fuel delivery is no longer a problem.I had to do this as soon as i went to a 600 holley as the original pump was not able to supply sufficient flow.the electric pump doesnt have to be an expensive hi volume type,it only has to help to get fuel to the mechanicl pump

You are looking for the constant control relay module- ( CCRM ) see below. The pump will be located inside the fuel tank.Most of the time , its the pump and not the relay but, it wouldn't hurt to check the relay out. Teh relay is housed in the CCRM. Its located behind the engine coolant reservoir.

Yes you do. Be careful of the plastic fuel supply line when you reinstall the assembly. The hose can kink, and you will not have fuel pressure.

fuel pump relay is failing some times they get that way and also make you replace the pump and its the relay
