My answer Edited 7th October 2023 as the website links mentioned back in July 2022 now fail. This new link states Harbor Breeze is an exclusive Lowes product now, not sure it it was before, but they are also sold at Home Depot.
There are a number of copycat and deceptive websites mentioned in this question, and I deleted one Answer that was purely and advertising click thru site and nothing more than that, with no support information at all.

I've noticed this on other Craftsman and MTD mowers. The ones with the one main steering rod from the steering wheel to the left wheel and a connecting rod from the left wheel to the right wheel. I think that since we are advised to mow in a counter-clockwise direction, they design the mowers to turn tighter towards the left. It's in the design just like you suspected.
