My gps does not read streets names

Is there any chance to download computer voices on my Tomtom one XL GPS?

To get your TomTom to speak street names, you will need to change the voice from a recorded voice to a computer voice. This can be done by: 

  • Connect your TomTom to your computer
  • When the TomTom asks do you want to connect to the computer, choose Yes
  • Open the TomTom Home application
  • Click on the 'Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras, etc.' button
  • Click on the 'Voices' button
  • Click on the 'Computer Voices' button
You can now select a voice to install on the device. 
Once you have installed a voice, change it by
  • Disconnect the TomTom from your computer
  • Turn on the TomTom
  • Touch the screen to bring up the menu
  • Touch 'Change Preferences'
  • Touch 'Voice Preferences'
  • Touch 'Change Voice'
  • Use the Left / Right arrows to navigate to the voice you just installed (Look for the word 'computer' in the upper right corner by the male/female option)
  • Touch the 'Select' button

yes, but you have to use one of the computer generated voices, because it not capable of announcing street names with human voices.

tap the map screen, then the little wrench icon, then scoll to the page with the voice options (chance voice) and select a computer generated one.


if you can find it, let me know...its also possible someone has deleted the computer voices, in that case, youll have to download tomtom home to get them back.

yes, but you have to use one of the computer generated voices, because it not capable of announcing street names with human voices.

No street names spoken
Have you selected an electronic voice? If you have a "standard" voice or have used a "celebrity" download voice, it won't give computed responses for street names.
Go to voices, change voice and try a digital/electronic voice. If not installed, use TomTom home to download an electronic voice.

I HAVE A TOMTOM330S , I ONLY FIND TWO VOICES THAT WILL WORK WITH STREET NAMES. IS THERE ANYWAY TO HAVE MORE CHOICES THAT I CAN USE WITH STREET NAMES
To get tts (text to speech) you have to use a computer generated voice. TomTom does not offer many tts voices, but you can download tts voices thru TomTom Home.

TomTom® XL 330S GPS Receiver street names announced?
your xl will not say street names if its using a human voice, because it can not convert text to speech

you have to use the computer generated voice option to utilize the text to speech feature.

tap the map screen, the go in the preference option, then locate the change voice option.

on my xl its on the 4th page but your 330 may differ slighly.

it probably wont tell you which are computer or human generated, so youll have to experiment.

Xl340s will not speak street names , street names on key board will not take sometimes. new unit out of box
You need to use a "Computer" Voice I believe Susan is the female option and Richard is the male option. Only the computer voices can read street names.

Tomtom xl 330.s wont speek street names
Yes Nickarino is right.
When I switched on my new tom tom it gave me that option to speak street names and it vanished after selected a different voice. I checked all manuals and web references in Tom Tom - none of them list it.
Like Nick said - what you need to do is swtich the voice type to SAMANTHA and it will show the option "Read Street Names Loudly". I jumped on it and said yes ..!!!

My new tomtom XL It should have spoken street names, but I can not get it?
Apparently only Samantha can speak street names. Mine didn't come with it, but when I updated my unit by connecting it to the computer at the tomtom site, Samantha was automatically downloaded. I chose her voice and it works.

Speaking the names of major streets
It will only tell you the names of the streets if you use the COMPUTER voice. The other voices will not announce street names. So go to your voice selection and pick the computer voice...either male or female.
